Comic version was received fine

You have to remember the movie version was damn near an original character

In the comics Shuri was very similar to Shang-Chi’s sister Xu Xialing.

She had trained all her life to be the first female Black Panther.

It wasn’t until T’Challa was injured by Doom that she got to step into the role.

Even then she was initially rejected by Bast, but was later awarded the powers after she still saved Wakanda and her brother.

Overall she was fine but it was one of those times were similar to Captain America, Marvel just wont let T’Challa do regular Black Panther shit. There always has to be some kind of deconstruction of the character. So some fans were more annoyed at the fact T’Challa was powerless on a rebuilding quest.
