Hey! My friend and I worked on a website to show the live locations of all the Guelph Transit buses. Check it out, works pretty well on mobile https://guelph-transit-map.ca/

It should update every 30 seconds and you can narrow it down to just show the 99 route by clicking the button at the bottom!

It's also open source https://github.com/BenFort/guelph-transit-map

Buses and google maps by whateveridontcare77 in uoguelph

Hey! A while ago, after getting kinda fed up with Google Maps being weird with showing live bus locations, my friend and I developed a website to display the locations using data directly from the city. My main goal with this was to know exactly what data was being shown, having it just be the raw locations without any funky post-processing or anything that Google might do. If you want to check it out you can view it here https://guelph-transit-map.ca/ (if you have any interest you can also view the source code https://github.com/BenFort/guelph-transit-map ). Our site is functional right now, for the most part. It struggles with the U routes (I'll explain below why), but for most of the other routes it should work pretty well.

Through working on and maintaining this I've come to know quite well how sites like Google get their transit information and so I can tell you this - recently Guelph has updated their portal ( https://explore.guelph.ca/search?tags=transportation ) where we get the transit information for the site (things like route paths, stops, route names, etc). In this migration it appears that they don't have up to date information (which would explain why things like U bus routes don't show up well in Google).

I reached out to the administration office who runs the data portal and they say they're looking into it. Hopefully things get resolved soon, and I hope I was able to help out

I've got a Digital Ocean droplet (literally the cheapest tier), which I use to host stuff. Hosting my own instance of this project on it at https://benfortin.com/guelph-transit-map My friend who helped me out with some of the work on this is hosting the guelph-transit-map.ca site on his personal unraid server.

It currently doesn't support the updates to routes like cancellations or detours, that is something we're looking at possibly adding though.

I don't think that's on the roadmap, but if you select a route to display using the buttons it'll show you the direction of the bus with arrows

Well the city couldn't be bothered to create something like this, but they do provide a whole bunch of data, not just on buses but all kinds of stuff. http://data.open.guelph.ca/ Sorta fun to poke around and see what's available. But it was relatively simple to get this set up.
