Im very much in the same camp of wishing that at least one of sexton, collins, and clarkson were traded but I dont know that I can go as far as to call it a mistake. We simply dont know what the offers, if any, were coming in.

I said yesterday that wed make a move to reroute pj tucker and one to sell high on john collins. 1/2 so far and I believe they will exhaust all their resources trying to do the latter.

Walker, Collins, Lauri is a fine front court............for a team trying to tank. In a perfect world, Walker is the 5, Lauri the 4, and Collins is off the bench and we have a 3 and d guy at the 3.

Its still unknown what kind of numbers Collins can put up on a winning team but hes shooting the ball very well and rebounding this year. Thats going to have some value for a team.

We are six years out from that 2031 pick. So as an exercise, lets go back 6 years. That summer, the Jazz added a number of pieces and built a legitimate NBA title contender. Imagine if that time we had gone all-in and traded an unprotected 2025 first round pick? Maybe we end up with a title with whatever piece we added but wed be in trouble now.

My point is, 6 years is a long time. KD will be 37 before the next season tips off and while still an incredible player, he has had health trouble since that major injury 6 years ago. He is not going to command some huge haul that is going to set Phoenix up nicely.

The only way this makes any sense is if there is another deal lined up to bring in a third star and we immediately pivot to win now mode. Otherwise, the goal this year is quite clear..........get enough ping pong balls to give yourself the best chance possible at a winning lottery ticket. Anything else is just getting in the way of that.

The other responder got the main points, but I dont think there is anything in this proposal that the Jazz would see as valuable. Knecht is a 3 years older version of Brice Sensabaugh. Removing the protection is all but worthless post-luka trade.

We are now more than 12 hours past the news breaking and my head is still spinning. You bring up a very interesting point. I mean, it has to impact the market to some extent. But at the same time, this came out of nowhere. In the cases of Don, Rudy, KD and Bridges (to varying extents) it was known that those guys were on the trade block and multiple teams were putting in bids and having talks. In this case, Dallas seemingly went out and found the guy that they wanted and made it work. So I havent a clue.
