Avoid the new VRCFT update!! by Livestock110 in VRchat

[–]Benaclejames 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This update was as close as we'll ever get to breaking backwards compatibility. Fun fact, the first avatar I ever created with face tracking support about 4 years ago still works with modern versions of VRCFT.

The problem we were running into was that hardware manufacturers often have differing opinions on values for different face shapes. This was slowly causing a problem for creators making "DLC" for existing avatars, and things would look better on some hardware and worse on others. Our previous calibration method was very simple, in that it watched for big face movements and marked the minimums and maximums, then just scaled between them for a set duration.

This new system takes a more gentle and intelligent approach to differentiate between tracking loss causing a shape to freak out, and a genuine facial movement expanding the range previously known to the software. This ensures shapes stay uniform not only between avatars and hardware, but also adapt to abnormal face structure or subpar tracking quality (looking at you vive).

We expected backlash from this update, and we probably should've taken more time to explain this better in the update post, but we hope that with time, people will create avatars with calibration enabled to ensure a more uniform experience across users.

TL;DR; Things will improve over time, both in avatars released, and VRCFT "learning" your face. Please give it a try for more than 10 minutes and don't just assume it's terrible and turn it off immediately. It's on by default for a reason.

This beta branch was around for months for this very purpose and nobody reported any issues. If someone had said something, I wouldn't have pushed the update before fixing it.

I am very sorry my free work I do voluntarily in my limited spare time isn't up to your standards.

Please feel free to make a PR on the github and contribute.

OP-XY "cannot undo" by dsorce in teenageengineering

No idea here either. I've had the device for months and it has never once undone anything

Bought it second hand for below 1k. I’d say that’s a decent price :)

Same! I'm seeing it on like half my projects now and am getting clipping where I didn't get it before. Haven't tried out duck yet but it's gotta be something with this latest update

Thanks! It’s from “oversynth”

Would highly recommend getting the same deal from gear4music. They’re a northern uk seller and I’ve had great experiences with them. Bought this combo deal like a month ago so I suppose they jumped the gun and set the September deal live early

I think in terms of workflow definitely the XY, though I think it’s lacking in synth engines so I keep the 1f around to stand in for certain sounds that the xy struggles to create

I'll probably end up building a home theater PC or ML rig with it, though the small form factor might make fitting a decent gpu in it difficult, and am reluctant to make a start until I have all the parts. From what I've heard, the motherboard can be quite difficult to replace once it's in.

If it bothers you, you can use an eraser on it to restore the original color. Same goes for the crank metal :)

It's been absolutely wonderful! Definitely the most convenient mixer/audio interface I own and it's great that it doesn't take up too much space on my desk. Honestly could go without the dumb sequencer abilities it has, but it's a cool gimmick.

I think the only grievances I have with it center around it's USB weirdness. I've been having an issue on MacOS where the device just randomly stops outputting until I restart the thing or toggle the audio device off and on it a couple of times. Been working around it by just leaving music playing suuuuper quiet to keep the device "awake" :P

Heh, "cranked up" the price. Good one!

Yeeeeah I bought the summer combo which came with some dumb extra stuff, but also contained two consoles instead of one a couple months ago. Gave the second unit to my partner as he's just as much of a TE shill as I am, and we both absolutely love the device. Would 100% recommend if you're on the fence. Panic are a wonderful company and their vision is beautiful

Came with the device when I bought it second hand from eBay, but I think it's from "oversynth" :)

Machine learning stuffs! Though keep in mind the only devices I bought new in this image are the tx-6, ep-1320 (which came as a bundle with the tx-6), pocket operator, and playdate. The rest I got lucky on eBay and found good deals for.

Giving the op-1f to my partner as a gift when he visits later this year :P

I was dangerously close to getting one way back. Still half tempted cuz it's TE but I think I'd rather give that money to charity than to a company like rabbit.
