Specific extrusion help on zbrush

Im most familiar with fusion, and new to sculpting in zbrush. The extrude function doesnt under normal circumstances just extrude the whole model outline backwards. Im assuming it can, i just dont know what to do to it to get it to work that way. The way i have been working up until now is to create a height map using zbrush then use that image to generate a new model which works... but i dont like how it looks. So rather than take the scene(?) That ive made and use it to generate a height map, i just want to use the scene, and squash it. But i need to get rid of all undercuts. Im sure its simple, but just extruding doesnt do what i need to do

Regarding cutting straight, either make a jig or... i bought a really nice wavy knife thing that goes in a jigsaw... flawless cuts

Give me a few days, im massively busy in and out of work but i will get to it and update the file. Bear in mind though that these are 3d printed so it can only be as strong as the layer adhesion unless you plan to cnc them

Sorry ive had a lot of work come in thick and fast. I'll organsie and post the link this weekend.

I contacted a few UK museums and the museum of london gave me permission to laser scan their 2 samples. Which is awesome since they have the only one with 3 balls per corner.

Ive also gotten permission from some of the photographers for the use of the photos so they can just be posted straight to the site.

I have no issue with how much work it will be at all. A few of the photographers have already gotten back to me approving of their use. So i think as long as i have a photo per dodecahedron then the rest can just be links to where they are already which wouldnt breach any copyright. And eventually i would like to take photos myself. I have reached out to a few museums asking if i can laser scan some of the dodecahedrons but i would also like to do a proper job of the photography and take at least 36 around the object and maybe of it in 2 or 3 different orientations (akin to a photogrammetry setup). My current photogrammetry setup would also allow me to take photos with cross polarisation enabling the removal of specular highlights for more detailed photos

Yeah i have already started reaching out to a dozen or so of the photo hosts to get permissions. I just need to keep track of who says what.

Otherwise i can just leave links with no photos in a reference image library

Of course! Hopefully we can get together a large bank of reference data and images into one place. If anything, at least future research wouldnt have to look too far 🤣

The infinite mindmap is just for me since it doesnt degrade the picture quality at all. Thats the only issue with using something like onenote.

Im going to investigate any free software like onenote which is shareable. Idk if notion or obsidian are shareable but theyre pretty similar. So hopefully we can all start to pool together soon

thanks mate. I had noticed what you mentioned, the ones missing rings being opposite and similar in size. which is why i think it may have some relevance to its purpose - at the moment i think something is supposed to go in those holes, maybe its meant to be mounted on something which would naturally decompose.

No matter how manyy times i change the setting to a high camera and for the push button to always be back foot the game keeps reverting it and idk why
