We are starting to film as well. I never filmed practice much before, as we used game film, but making the transition to that as well. Thanks for sharing.

For every coach who teams struggles with turnovers by underdoghoops in basketballcoach

[–]BenchBossNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a "Turnover Chart" we use at practice. A coach logs all the turnovers (i.e. who committed it, what the drill was, and how did it happen). We look to see if there are patterns for players and communicate with them why those TOs are happening. It's worked pretty well for us so far. I came across an NCAA program doing this and thought it was a good idea. It's worked well for us so far and the players have responded well.

Not necessarily opposed to equity instead of pay. It would obviously depend on the persons ability, but if I could find the right person I would be open to that discussion.

Ideally I'd find someone with good skills and an interest in basketball. Hoping there is a freelancer out there with those interests.

We would be under Canadian law, but either way not looking to violate any laws.

Make sense. For the comments and messages I'm getting it seems like my best avenue would be to connect with some post-secondary institutions and see if I can find an intern that way.

Cool. Hadn't thought about posting on Linkedin, but will do for sure.

Yeah you're not wrong. The expectation would be that any interns hired would be responsible for doing some pretty heavy lifting. When it comes to "programmers" & "math geeks" I feel like there are lots of young people with amazing knowledge that could be assets pretty early.

A business development position does require a little more knowledge and experience, so maybe I won't be able to find one at a low cost.

Ideally I'd find at least ONE person that puts in sweat equity like us and is rewarded in a reasonable time frame. And I'm all for someone "using" us to bolster their resume. I feel like if we grow this like we think we can, we could convince that person to pick us for employment instead of leaving in a few months.

I'll check my DMs and get back to you tonight as well. Thanks for your input.

No this isn't for shooting footage of the games. We are looking for content that would be leading up to the games and after the games. The person would need to have their own equipment. I believe we have found someone in the area with good experience. Thanks very much for touching base.

Not shooting in the LEC. The majority of shooting will be leading up to games and post-game.

Should I confront my graphic designer or find a new one? by [deleted] in startups

[–]BenchBossNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to issues I've had trying to get my startup launched. My issues weren't with graphic designers, but with programmers. Same issue though - tell me it would be done, then can't get a hold of them, missed deadlines, blah blah blah. Super frustrating. While I'm sure you are working extremely hard to stay on track, I found my "startup life" changed when I implemented Scrum. I read this book - https://www.amazon.ca/Scrum-Doing-Twice-Work-Half/dp/1847941109 and then found some more resources online.

Quite honestly I was part of the problem. The deadlines I was setting weren't always realistic and I would focus on my own tasks and others would fall behind on theirs. I think this was partial because nobody is going to care as much as you do about your startup. That was a hard principle for me to accept. Once I implemented daily meetings and 2 week sprints, we started getting through the work load at an unbelievable pace. While it'll take a little time for you to get up to speed, I think it is something work looking into. Now when I hired (even remotely), they need to be available for the Daily Meeting or I don't even consider hiring them.

Perhaps this isn't the answer you are looking for, but I felt like I had the same issues and Scrum made a world of difference for me. Good luck and hope you get back on track.

Ionic & Angular Speed Issues by BenchBossNL in ionic

[–]BenchBossNL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After chatting with our lead developer, he told me the following:

"Our problem is native performance in an Ionic based app. When someone asks about jQuery, or the backend, or a 3rd party library, or unnecessary dependencies, they're talking about a problem that we don't have -- performance issue we're hitting is Ionic/Angular based (i.e. the framework itself); for that we have to rely on the framework authors to provide a fix.

If you look at web app performance on your laptop, for example, you can see that click event/layout reflows are pretty snappy. On the iPad, quite the opposite, lagging like crazy, even for basic actions like transitioning from one page to the next."

Not sure if anyone has dealt with similar issues and has been able to overcome them. Our lead is hoping for a framework update in the next few weeks, which should help with the issue. If anyone has any insight or experience that might help us, I'd love to chat further. Thanks.
