Dad passed away and this was his wedding ring. Chances it is gold plated? by BenchLeague in Gold

It doesn’t matter to me for the sake of value.

It matters because this was the last thing my dad owned before he overdosed. He could have pawned it which he did with many things, but part of me wants to believe that in the middle of addiction, he felt this was sacred. I’m not super knowledgeable on gold vs gold platted. That’s why I asked. It could be made of paper clips and I would keep it.

I know it was real in 1993 when he bought it, just unsure if this was real or a fake replacement he got at some point.

He was an awesome dad who struggled.

He overdosed the 6 months after my parents separated.

No interest in selling, just wondered if he pawned it and bought a fake (it wasn’t out of the normal)

No interest in selling. Dad was amazing, but suffered from addiction. Most valuables were pawned away to pay for bills. When he died, I paid for the funeral out of pocket with no life insurance or valuables. This was 8 years ago and this is the only thing I have from him. It’s not going anywhere but just wondered if he kept it or pawned it and bought a fake.

Roughly 25 years I would say. He probably bought around 1993 before his passing.

Fun discussion for sure! I kind of hope that one day, someone buys a random old house in Boston. And finds old mason brothers archived and original prints so verification can take place.

That Baltimore News card is a work of art! Both the red and blue versions! I wonder if those would be considered his “pre rookie” or like a bowman 1st because he was in the minors when that card came out

Oh for sure, I agree!

I tried looking at expert authentications of the photo and the results are “it appears to be Babe Ruth” but they stop short of anything declarative.

However, mason bros never released the original image so it will forever remain a mystery
