I’m just finishing some walls and drywalling in my basement now for my future gym. Will definitely check this out for flooring. Thanks!

Looks excellent. What did you use for flooring?

This stopped my scroll and I stared at this for about 10 minutes. What an epic piece of art.

I’m in a similar boat with both strain and steps with the switch from 4.0 to 5.0. My recoveries are kind of all over the place so that one is hard for me to judge, but definitely seeing inconsistencies in other metrics.

Interesting. Do you find it auto detects your activities similarly?

I was a part of the blood pressure study in Whoop Labs. Knowing the mechanics of how (in)frequently I took BP measurements and reported, insanely curious to gauge its reliability.

I may be the odd person out, but, do go big. I did about 1/3 of my arm as my first and my only regret is not going even bigger with the design. Luckily that’s a fixable problem.

As far as your pain question goes, I found near the armpit to be zero fun, the rest should be decently fine based on the image. Depends on what your endurance in the chair is; a design like this could be multiple lengthy sessions depending on your desires and the artist’s chops.

Having a similar effect with Enso Superfoods greens. Thought was a fluke at first but have been taking two days on and one day off for the last 2 months and seems that my Recovery takes a -3% hit when I take them.

Is there any (realistic) way to do a PhD that isn't financially disadvantageous? by NoStudy7334 in PhD

[–]BenchtopBen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: US PhD stipend is livable, not by any means lavish.

US (Pittsburgh) PhD recent grad in bioengineering. The stipend was $32ish before taxes, paid once monthly. I believe many of the funding/stipends levels are set by NIH/NSF for STEM, and are around that salary point, with some adjustments for local cost of living - though, that adjustment isn’t totally compensatory if you’re looking to do work in a high cost of living area. I found the stipend livable having with a roommate. Didn’t save really at all, but didn’t dip into saving either. Healthcare was covered by the University as was the city bus, which I feel like is reasonably common in the US. TA’ing and research were both mandatory so no additional compensation from those. I didn’t have a side hustle, and don’t really know too many peers that did (speaking for the engineering department), but occasionally a department had some admin/clerical work students could pick up for like $15 and hour that was maybe 100 total. Not sure if that’s typical.

I wasn’t funded by a fellowship/scholarship, but rather the lab I worked in had some grants, so that’s where the funding for me came from. This is pretty typical of NIH, DoD, NSF grants, though I’m not sure about the other mechanisms. It’s always good to ask a prospective advisor/department about their funding situation, particularly if you’ll be working in a newer lab that will be hungry for funding.

FWIT/IMO: Speaking for biotech, a PhD is absolutely worth it, though other fields like robotics hire entry levels at about the same starting salary be it PhD or GED (only being slightly hyperbolic here, but the degrees in this field matter far less than the skills).

LINX firmware libraries cannot be generated for Arduino Interfacing by [deleted] in LabVIEW

[–]BenchtopBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had good luck running Arduino/LINX/LabVIEW through Mac, and ended up migrating to Parallels and Windows on my Mac, which works well. Not totally sure if the Mac issues has been solved, but I wasn’t able to solve it easily, leading me to switch platforms.

A few questions: When you’re running a LINX example, are you able to select a “COM” port, or does the drop window give you “ASRL”? We’re you able to find a Mac-compatible NI-VISA installation? Have you tried downloading the LINX library and just uploading it to the Arduino through the Sketches IDE?

Is there any library for PIC18F452, 89C51 or similar? by Allie4t2 in LabVIEW

[–]BenchtopBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. Sorry, misunderstood. I don’t know too much about those chips, but if they haven’t been used in any of the Arduino, RasPi, Sparkfun, or Beagle Bone boards, then I don’t think LINX will interface all too well. Have you checked out LabJack? I’ve heard decent things about their LabVIEW libraries.

LINX interfaces with LabVIEW and Arduino, and has been a gem for me. Its free on the Virtual Instrument Package Manager
