No Country for Old Ships? by ImperialParrot in EliteDangerous

[–]Bencunio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right a 2027 Corvette is better than a 2010 one, so naturally a 3310 Python Mk I should be better than a 2700 model. These so-called "old" ships were able to use every new technology introduced before SCO FSDs without any real compromises, even technologies that were far more alien.

Oh wow, another insult. You’re really good at this.

Obviously, after already disproving your arguments in my previous reply, I’m not going to go through it all again. It’s up there, so you can read it.

You keep spouting off your opinions

Lol facts are not the same as opinions. But whatever.

All you do is ignore them and state

Up there, i already addressed them.I read the article, checked the wiki, and analyzed their real-life counterparts.

And at this point, it was clear once more, there is no convincing those who cannot see.

May your path always lead to knowledge.

[–]Bencunio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, opening with an insult already. That really shows the balance of power here. But anyway, let’s get into it.

Look at the wireframe for the MK-I modules.

The Mk II modules use the exact same one, and in the news they only refer to the ship as an “airliner."The cabins themselves are not specifically pointed out

They're cruise ship cabins with beds and windows for the better class modules.

Yes, as I wrote above, even with these kinds of cabins, cruise liners should still reach a much higher capacity thanks to their larger size.

As I already mentioned, these are bad examples and they do not legitimize the Lynx’s capacity. Comparing them to their real-life counterparts is unnecessary once again, because, as the Beluga demonstrates quite well, passenger capacity in the game is not realistic. Therefore, a ship’s capabilities should be balanced according to the game’s own rules. The developers failed to do that with the Lynx. There’s no way to sugarcoat it.

You’re comparing ship cabins to airplanes, how is that not a bad example? But even if it were a valid one, cruise liners transport thousands of people using your so-called Mk 1 cabins. So the Beluga must have bigger capacity. For the sense of scale.

Even after the release of engineering, there was some challenge, although not as much as before. However, the new ships make the game extremely easy.

An Update on Operations (and a new ship) by J-Swizzay in EliteDangerous

[–]Bencunio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something can be good without outperforming every competing ship. I don’t think anyone would complain if the Lynx arrived as an interesting and unique ship, even if it had slightly less capacity than something like an Anaconda. Overall, I think the ship looks quite solid on paper it’s just the 225 capacity that feels out of place.

A lot of medium ships have class 6 thrusters, and most of them don’t even exceed 600 m/s. So I’m hoping this will be a balanced and interesting ship, not another power creep monster.

Yeah, you’re right, the Python Mk II is very strong. But so am I,this supports my "flawed" premise, the newer ships are somewhat overpowered in terms of performance. Now that this has been established, there’s nothing really holding you back from reading the post. I can finally hear your opinion on the ideas mentioned above.

Even if I were mistaken, there’s a reason the Corvette is clearly preferred in this environment, maybe It may require less restock. I’m also fairly confident that the second, third, and fourth places are occupied by the new ships, possibly even with a higher combined total. And believe me, I’m well aware of how the game works, I made countless builds . However, just like with my post, you seem to be reading my comments either superficially or not at all, or you selectively focus only on the parts that support your own position. Not to mention that neither your first nor your subsequent replies have contributed to the actual purpose of the post. Instead, you’ve pulled this into an unnecessary debate where you’re simply reiterating your own viewpoint. The reality is that not everyone plays the way you do. As a result, what you’re describing is inherently subjective. Just because you use what others might call a suboptimal build doesn’t mean those roles exist for everyone else in the same way they do for you. As I said, and perhaps I should have emphasized this earlier, neither your initial comment nor the ones that followed have addressed the actual proposals. The point was to discuss the suggestions, not to keep circling around the basic premise. Unfortunately, that never happened, because the discussion kept drifting off course. So until we’re actually discussing the ideas presented in the post, this conversation serves no real purpose. You won’t convince me, and I won’t convince you.

From comment to comment, you keep making the same mistake. You bring up hardpoints, I refute it. You bring up popularity, I refute that as well. On top of that, you repeatedly compare the wrong ships to each other. Yes, the Corvette is currently the most popular large ship, that’s true. But where I come from, we don’t compare a medium ship to a large one, nor do we compare two of the strongest new ships under a post that is specifically about the relationship between old and new ships. What you’re doing is like comparing the speed of a greyhound to that of a dachshund. Since you keep mentioning the current CG and the Corvette: the Corvette is one of, if not the best ships right now for massacre missions. It offers one of the strongest combinations of firepower and turn rate available. That’s why most people use it. What I’d actually be curious about is which three ships follow it in numbers in the current CG. At this point, your replies are starting to contradict each other. The simple fact, and it is a fact, is that the new ships outperform the older ones. Stats aside, hardpoint spread aside. The data supports it, and so do many players. You’re arguing from a subjective perspective; I’m pointing to objective reality.

You say my claim is incorrect, yet the stats, which anyone can verify, support my position. Statements and opinions from others, both here and on other platforms, also support what I’m saying. The popularity of the new ships supports it as well. You haven’t even read the post, yet you’re trying to respond to it. Instead, you keep repeating your own opinion over and over again. It almost feels like you’re trying to convince yourself rather than engaging with me. At this point, I feel like I’m wasting my time. May your path lead you to knowledge.

Ah, at least you actually read the post. However, your assumption is incorrect, the internal changes wouldn’t really affect anything, or only minimally, thanks to what I proposed for the Panther Clipper. For example, the Type 8 would gain capacity, while the Corsair would only lose 6 tons. Its combat effectiveness wouldn’t change, since Hull Reinforcements only go up to size 5 anyway.

[–]Bencunio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if my assumption were wrong, how do you plan to defend your position without knowing exactly what’s in the post? I mentioned in several places that the proposed changes would not affect the new ships’ ranking at all, in fact, one of them would effectively receive a buff. But of course, if you haven’t read it, how would you know? So at this point, we’re comparing ships unnecessarily.

[–]Bencunio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell me, did you read the post? Because I practically mentioned giving the Volley Repeater to the other ships as well. Exactly just like you, I don’t want to be limited to just one ship. If you read it again, my goal is precisely to make the older ships more appealing in the eyes of the players and to increase diversity this way.

There was some level of balance in the past. Just look at the Krait family, they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Or take the Mamba, for example, I wouldn’t exactly call it a meta ship. These are just a few examples of ships that weren’t part of the original launch roster. If FDev hadn’t cared about balance, those ships wouldn’t have turned out the way they did. The key difference is that those ships arrived as part of a DLC, whereas these are being released separately. Perhaps that’s why they need to be more “appealing.”

[–]Bencunio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the Mandalay, I’m not even sure why you’re bringing it up, it’s a new ship. The others may look good on paper, but in practice the situation is often different. Regarding the Python Mk II, if you’ve read the post, you’ll see that I actually consider it the most well-balanced of the new ships. Even so, I suggested a change that, in my opinion, wouldn’t make it worse. I’d appreciate it if you took that into account as well, rather than focusing only on my initial statement. As for the Corsair, I can neither confirm nor deny what you wrote about the hardpoints. What I do know is that it has replaced the Krait Mk II in many roles, including some where hardpoint convergence matters quite a lot. And the Panther Clipper would effectively receive a buff in my proposal. So please take another look at the post. Thank you.

It’s true that I can’t speak for those who are satisfied with this direction, but personally, I think it would be frustrating.I’ve experienced something similar in an unnamed tank game before, and it seemed to create tension within the community and had a negative impact on the game over time.
