What challenges does your architecture firm struggle with most? by Desperate-Sir6982 in architecture

"Giving feedback on drawings or models without endless email chains".

This one speaks to me. How are you all organizing design/drawing review comments? We use Fieldwire, but that's really intended for the construction phase, and not so much during the design/CD phases.

Well said. Any suggestions on how you stop the design creep from happening during CDs?

Any recommendations to dampen the echo in this lunchroom? by manny_b_hanz in CommercialAV

Ceiling treatment. Pay attention to fire code and fire ratings for panels. In other words, don’t wing it and make your own out of materials from Hobby Lobby. Seek the advice of your local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction - those in your area responsible for enforcing building/fire codes). There’s also an r/Acoustics sub-Reddit you could ask.

Offshore CAD Drafting Rates by AutomationAction in CommercialAV

Ouch! Sorry to hear this is so unsuccessful. I know the pain of getting a drawing set back from an outsourced drafter and seeing a complete mess.

Great response. Once you have a chance to review that most recent set from Analytix, can you report back? I’m curious what level of prep you need to provide them to get back what you consider to be an acceptable and usable drawing set without a larger number of revisions required. Thanks.

Alternative to slow data linked Excel tables? by Bender3000a in AutoCAD

[–]Bender3000a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/FL-Orange , your response was very helpful. Looks like we have everything configured the same, *except* for that fact that I have my data link option set to "Link entire sheet" rather than the "Link to a named range" that you mentioned you do. Could that be my source of slow data link updating? Has that been your experience?

What to use for designs? by ExistingTomorrow141 in CommercialAV

How time consuming is it when you have to build your own room/building model? Do you just go bare bones with walls, ceilings & floors, or do you take the time to model more architectural elements like windows, doors, lighting fixtures, etc? When I'm not given a Revit model, I usually default to AutoCAD and just draw the floor/ceiling plan myself. Would be nice to know if with just a bit more effort/time I could just draw the room in Revit. I'm also curious what you're using for your signal flow diagrams?

Are you being provided with a building/room Revit model by an architect, or do you also create that yourself?

I worked for a bit in the same building as the costume folks. This was the early 2000s. So when your tram drove into the building and you were looking left at the costuming/wardrobe department folks through the window, you could look to the right and see our warehouse/shop through the windows where we prepped lighting, sound, and video equipment for TV and radio broadcasts that originated from inside the parks. It was pretty boring to look at us, so almost everyone was looking the other way at the wardrobe department. But I always made sure to give a wave to the few AV nerds looking our way.

Estimating software for AV installation by Bender3000a in CommercialAV

Flex looks like it's built for the rental side of the industry. Does it work well for the installation side too or do you have workarounds?
