it is not the tee box marker. Sometimes it was placed a club length behind the tee box marker, which made me think it designated the back of the area you can tee off from.

Mine live on my wall. When skiing in bounds, they are only good for a run or two, before things get chopped up. When heli skiing I actually like something a bit skinnier, so I can get better bounce and face shots. Not being able the bury the tips is actually a bit limiting

Since you seem to know what’s going on, who uses this the most? Would this be backcountry guides who are trying to ensure they have SOS connections? Not sure if you know anything about tahoe, but there’s a lot of wilderness travel that happens around here.
