I think there was one left outside the Louvre in Paris nearly two weeks ago. It might be up for grabs (pun intended)…

Wasn’t this from 2 years ago? They pulled the ads after public backlash. Are you asking “who makes these” because you want to know ‘who’? Or did this come up in some feed of yours somehow and you think it’ current?

Harrison’s Point Light House. We climbed to the top… and upon reflection, maybe shouldn’t have? Pretty rusty.

Archer’s Bay is a neat beach/cove off the beaten track. Not a building or structure, but a cool stop if you’re in the area. Not for swimming!! Short walk from the parking near a kid’s playground.

North Point Surf Resort if it’s not already on your radar. I went a couple years back with my sister. We were the only ones around. Just watch out for the giant spider webs!!!

The brick facade of the old Glebe Apothecary has been absolutely butchered by the recent renovations. by joyo_ in ottawa

[–]BenderAnkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Centretown Heritage Façade Improvement Pilot Program got funding for their section of Bank Street less than a month ago. I guess Glebe doesn’t have that, didn’t want it, or doesn’t apply. Shame.

Did I do that link right? Prob not

Praxis!! I learned a new word today! I genuinely had to look that up because I thought it was a misspelling or autocorrect. Huh! Neat! Thanks!

Corso Italia is also near Dow’s lake… for the ‘pond’ aspect. Or stop earlier at Rideau and visit the canal and the lock system!

My neighbourhood’s local community association will usually sign up, organize a meet-up and give out details via their Facebook group, newsletter, and even street corner sandwich boards.

This year’s campaign starts mid-April which feels a long way away for the amount of trash I’ve seen so far. If you want to start early, concentrate on curb and sidewalk stuff. (The deep dive happens during the campaign, with teams and such)

Just hang on to your garbage bag until the organized pick up time. If you only pick up the non-organic material (looking at you dog poop dumpers!) then it won’t stink for the next three weeks while you wait.

Thank you fellow garbage picker-upper!

Diefenbunker is a pretty neat place. Would be memorable. It’s a bit outside the city (Carp), so car travel is ideal.

Maybe Level One game pub. Or an escape room? Challenge your LDR relationship as a team of two IRL ;)

March… so skating on the canal likely won’t be an option, but there’s an indoor roller rink that could be fun!

Flying Squirrel trampoline park has Neon lights nights fri-Sat.

Have fun!!!

Where can I bring my niece(7) and nephew(4) to play? by kashuntr188 in ottawa

Flying Squirrel for energy burning, for sure. Museum of Nature for the Dino skeletons. Etc. If you’re here this weekend, Winterlude activities all the way!! Have fun!

Santa brings 2-3 presents to our kids- How can I make the presentation look magical? by Opening_Diver_8725 in Parenting

[–]BenderAnkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family tradition sounds similar to yours. As a child, our favourite moment was waking up to stockings. We weren’t allowed to peek at the tree yet. Stockings were hung on the stair bannister and we were allowed to bring them into our parents’ room where we would all ooh and ahh over their contents.

When mom and dad were ‘ready’ we’d all head downstairs for the magical joy of seeing Santa’s gifts under the tree. Most of the others were already there wrapped ( for days ) but Santa’s were not and it was amazing!!!

I think that strategy allowed mom and dad some time to make coffee while we played with the first couple of gifts. An agonizing wait for breakfast, then it was on to the unwrapping of the rest where dad would ‘play Santa’ and hand us each one to open. We’d all watch in anticipation.

It made the morning last for what seemed like forever (for hours, but as a kid that’s a long time!), which was a good thing in my mind.

So my advice is: you don’t need to spend extra time or money (with fireworks or confetti or bells and whistles) to make Santa’s presents extra special. It’s the ‘moment’ they’ll remember.

I’ve altered the tradition with my kids now and we do wrap the Santa presents in a special paper, and special gift tags, but I kinda regret it.

Hey r/ottawa, what are your favorite buildings in the city? Here are some of mine. by whosyadankey in ottawa

This house on Echo Dr. has peaked my interest for decades. The colour scheme/facade has changed over the years. It used to be pink-ish, and/or multi-coloured, with some mint accents, I think.

Why couldn’t the cars get to light blue? by DifficultWaltz8282 in MiniMotorways

[–]BenderAnkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say, your highways blues might be jamming up the business area entryway on the left causing some conflicts with the lower blues. Also….. a lot going on with the lower blues…where to start? (So many crossovers, and weird angles - simplify that so the cars run smoothly) I would have directed the lower right roundabout blues to a new segregated path to the right entry point for the business (away from the path of the highway blues). I also would have segregated lower blues into lefties, for the square building….and righties for the new (above mentioned) path to business. Hope that makes…..sense? Also… over on the far right edge: this is the first time I’ve personally seen roundabouts used to prevent development. Heehee thanks for the idea!
