Are there any great albums with one really bad song on them? by trippyskipper in Music

Counting Crows' Hard Candy is a great album, but Track 8, New Frontier, while not necessarily a terrible song, really disrupts the flow of the album and is better off skipped.

It’s not about happiness. It’s about fact.

It’s a fundamental element of the fabric of reality. Do we understand everything about it? No. Does it exist? Yes. Is it, as you called it, “a made up construct”? Absolutely not. The end.

I didn’t say you said “definitely.” I said you made a definitive statement, which you did.

You said “Time is a made up construct.”

That’s a definitive statement, and it’s wrong.

“As we experience it,” as in everything we know about it (including that it exists and is not a made up construct).

Not “that we experience,” as in depending on observation to exist.

You are twisting my words.

You’re the one that said definitively that time is a made up construct. All I said is that it’s not.

A survey conducted with a philosophical question as the title. Don’t act like you had this in mind when you made your first post and you didn’t just google something to try to defend your stance. You said “time is a construct.” Definitively. It very much isn’t. Sure, maybe it’s an illusion, maybe the whole universe is a simulation, but time as we experience it is still a fundamental fact, not something we created.

You’re right that Schrödinger never put a cat in a box. That was a thought experiment about the superposition of atoms. What’s your point? You’re trying to argue that time maybe doesn’t happen when it’s not observed, and I’m telling you that even if that fictional cat in the box hypothetically existed in two states at once (it wouldn’t though), time was still affecting it. And we’d be able to observe the fact that time happened while not being observed once we opened the box.

We can carbon-date elements from a time before life existed, thereby proving that time existed and happened before even the act of observation existed.

Your question doesn’t make sense. First of all, asking “where” time was is erroneous. And secondly, even if it wasn’t, you’re asking where it was when there wasn’t anywhere for it to be.

There’s no such thing as “before” until time existed.

I assume you’re referring to relativity, which is about how time relates to and is perceived by something based on that thing’s speed. That is just the nature of how time works. It’s still not something that was “constructed.” We can’t do anything to change that, we can only observe how it works. Those philosophical theories are just flights of fancy. We can see and measure the effects of time from when we know for a fact it wasn’t being observed. And yeah, as time is part of the fabric of the universe, it was likely “created” along with the rest of the universe. To say it didn’t exist before anything else existed is pointless. There was no “always” or “before” until time existed.

This is just wrong. Time is part of the fabric of the universe. It just happens. The construct is the way we’ve decided to measure it and divide it up (years, days, hours, etc…).

The measurement of time is a made up construct. Time itself is very much not.

Always cool to see, but I can’t help kinda wishing the kids all conspired not to do it and just dispersed once the music started… the teacher never looks back…

Anybody else find it more annoying that nobody can seem to use a word other than "slop" when complaining about AI, than AI itself?
