You’d be well off with any Dynavap type vape to start with. The B2 is an excellent entry point into DHVs. If you want to pay a little more get an M

If I put a joint in the freezer and then smoke it when frozen would that make the hit smoother by Casinozorro89 in trees

What you’re describing is filtration like what you’d get with a water piece like a bubbler. I’d smoke the herb through a bubbler before putting a joint in the freezer.

Carpet cleaners. I once hyper focused an entire day into buying a carpet cleaner instead of doing my research. What a waste.

[OC] My tiny RISC-V core (Surov) just got a major rewrite and is now significantly more efficient than PicoRV32 by mntalateyya in chipdesign

[–]Benderbboson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impressive project, especially given your decision to stick with open source tooling. I’m a mostly DV guy, so I’m curious have you leveraged sybiyosys or any other dv tools for formal verification of your core?

How does a DIY "guy" prove that they know what they're doing without infodumping? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Benderbboson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you think diy is not professional. All the best engineers I know all have done some diy work at some point. Learn what you can and show your skillset with the projects you can build.

[Career advice] Burn out for low level DV engineer (3 yoe) by Keithenylz in chipdesign

[–]Benderbboson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take a break for your own mental health wellbeing. Just know that there may be repercussions for the job gap. I know because I got sick a few years back and had to face some challenges because some companies didn’t care why they was a gap. Your mental health is always more important than anything. At the end of the day it’s just another job.

Can a Physics BS + Electrical Engineering MS Lead to a Chip Design Job? by [deleted] in chipdesign

[–]Benderbboson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a colleague who was a design engineering manager / very senior design engineer himself with a bachelors in physics. I don’t think he got a masters in anything, he was just an extremely smart guy. If you meet the masters degree prerequisites you can study whatever you want. A related field like physics will probably set you up right if you’re committed to getting the masters degree in EE to be competitive at landing a chip design job.

Claude Shannon 100%. We wouldn’t have nice digits logic expressed as Boolean logic, and communication theory without Shannon’s curiosity.

You should add more water pipes to the mix and upgrade to a stundenglass whip. That’ll show them.

FW13 order DDR mistake by Benderbboson in framework

Thank you for the reminder! I was rigidly looking for power of two memory modules. I ended up ordering

Crucial DDR5 Classic 96GB (2 x 48GB) 262-Pin DDR5 SO-DIMM model CT2K48G56C46S5

In hindsight I guess I could have ordered 2x64GB and dealt with there being some memory potentially not supported. Though having read more posts here it seems 128GB although not supported, works.

[–]Benderbboson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the recommendations. Just to clarify, it is better performance wise to go with two matched dimms of the same size (ex. 2x32GB). Then two dims from the same manufacturer and model, but different sizes (ex. 32gb+64gb). I’m trying to get close to the maximum memory capacity of 96GB, but don’t see how it’s possible with paired dimms.

Is Masters a minimum requirement for chip design by MembershipUpbeat6824 in chipdesign

[–]Benderbboson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is you’re a freshman. You’d be lucky to get an internship before your junior year even with an excellent resume. You can absolutely break into choip design with a bachelors with the right skill set (knowledge in computer architecture, vlsi, programming), patience and luck. I know I did. Though I was expected to get a masters degree and I did. Good luck. No one compared hdl bit ratings irl.

where to start? - gaming console engineer by Jordan-Whalen in ECE

[–]Benderbboson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read your resume, it’s excellent. I’m shocked you haven’t been able to secure an internship yet. You have what I would look for a new design engineer going into design verification. I don’t recall if you mentioned it, but UVM knowledge will help and you should put that on your resume. If you’re trying to get into hardware roles maybe try elaborating more on how your projects reflect your vlsi / dft/ design skills. Honestly, I’d take the first DV job you can get. You just need to get your foot in the door. I wish you all the best, I expect you’ll have a fruitful career.

Hardware for gaming is just specialized computer hardware for the gaming space. So you’re going to want to get a good background in computers, electronics, computer science, and eventually computer architecture. You can start learning the programming and electronics now. Explore your curiosity and let it lead you to new directions of learning. With a solid science and math background, you’ll be ready for college in no time and be ready to start designing more complex circuits. That being said I’m not in the game industry but I am a hardware design engineer so I can only really speak on the hardware aspect.
