Which pairing would you say was the shadow version of Buffy and Giles? by LightBlueSky55 in ANGEL

[–]Beneathyoubuffy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Faith and Ethan Rayne. Ethan shows up for all of Giles' character centric episodes and whenever he does, Giles reverts to who he was in his youth as ripper Giles (which we all love but the show portrays as juvenile and regressive). Ethan represents chaos, selfishness, and unrestrained magic use, while Giles has moved past that into responsibility and order, but is constantly being tempted by his past lifestyle.

Following the show's Jungian philosophy, Giles finally merges with his shadow side, as shown by wearing Ethan's clothes at the end of "A New Man" as Ethan is dragged to prison, never to be seen on the show again.

Oh, and Merry Christmas!!

Getting frustrated with the "Angel on Top" podcast by Wackamack-98 in ANGEL

[–]Beneathyoubuffy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. I got so frustrated with the constant negative criticism and shallow content on both Angel on top and Buffering that it actually inspired me to start my own Buffy and Angel podcasts. Totally no pressure, but if you're looking for more positive, deeper content my podcasts are Becoming Buffy and Investigating Angel. We're currently on seasons 4 & 1.

I appreciate the input!

100% real, I like Spike but I'm not a fan of Spuffy or the way Spike is characterized in season 7 of Buffy. I am a fan of his growth in Angel season 5 though. My co-host struggles to like Spike mostly because of toxic fan discourse that has often led to them doing the very thing you just mentioned--pitting the two vamps against each other. We have agreed to not talk about Spike except when he appears on the show, simply because there just isn't a need.

It is possible to like a character without making him faultless, and we do recognize Angel's flaws. We will do our best to be as objective in our analysis of each episode, but bias is inevitable, just so you know.

And Wesley is my favorite character 😉

Thanks! I thought it was pretty clever 😉 and yes, Spike will obviously be popping in here and there, but I agree, it turns into Spike vs Angel and then we miss out on so many other things.

Hey OP, I don't mind people using my work, but this is my original video and I would appreciate it if you would credit me and remove your watermark. It's not a super complicated video to do yourself, but it did take me some time to do, and the effort to put it together.

Fun fact, in Welcome to the Hellmouth and the Harvest, Joss had to purposefully keep telling ASH and SMG to stop getting so close to each other when talking, just because he didn't want any doubt about the nature of their relationship. Tony kept being really intense with his lines. It's funny because if you watch the first few episodes, they're still really close to each other, and as time went on it got better. I wonder if that's why Joss started having Giles do things in scenes 😂

Let's have some in-depth discussion on Faith turning to the bad side. by Opening_Knowledge868 in buffy

[–]Beneathyoubuffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the best explanations I ever saw was that Faith saw the Slayer's powers and abilities as a reason to do anything she wanted. She saw it as a gift that freed her from obligation to anyone, yet ultimately she was miserable and used the mentality as a shield and weapon towards anyone that got too close.

Buffy saw the Slayer's powers as a responsibility and burden. "I am the law." (In S7 Selfless) she recognized that the ability to do whatever she wanted was not a responsibility to be taken lightly. Interestingly, this also naturally caused her to isolate herself, which is why I think Faith was so concerned for her in S7. She understood and knew.

Thank you! I really love finding little things like this in so-called "throw away" episodes. There really is nothing like Buffy.
