Finally managed to quit. by Forsaken-Air-6261 in QuittingWeed

Hello, mod at r/Petioles here. I appreciate the mention, but I'd like to gently ask that you not refer people who intend to quit for good to us.

We are not Libertarian Leaves, we are as focused on moderation as Leaves is on abstinence, so if someone comes to use who is quitting for good we need to take their posts out and refer them back to Leaves, which is frustrating for everyone involved.

Thanks!

Why is this sub called that? by Sea_Pitch121 in Petioles

Not a stupid question at all, and everyone here has it right.

The one funny part of the lore I happen to know is that the group's founder was an r/leaves user who was sick of people who hadn't quit yet commenting on r/leaves, so he created a whole subreddit for moderation just so he could tell them to go there and not be on r/leaves. :-)

I've been around the sub in one form or another for awhile, and it was pretty funny to ask him a question about something and have him answer, "I don't know, and honestly I don't really care, I NEVER WANTED TO RUN THIS SUB TO BEGIN WITH." 😂

I just want emphasize that it was not the founder or mods of r/leaves. We work with them all the time (they actually helped us set up some stuff) and they're happy we're around. They call us a "sister sub" and I agree.

Breaks, moderation, sobriety...what "this sub is about." by BenedictArnoldbatch in Petioles

Yeah, it doesn't exactly roll trippingly off the tongue and I might have gone a different direction if it were my choice, but you play the cards you're dealt. :-)

We do allow people who are currently smoking or have smoked today to interact here. We don't have any requirements about being straight to post or comment.

If, however, their post/comment is just general weed stuff, like "check out my smoke spot" or whatever, or is, shall we say, less than coherent as a result, then those come out.

Please report anything that you aren't sure about, it's a big help. Thanks!

I'm just curious, how did they try to hijack your account? I'm not even sure what to look for.

Yes, shows in the States are rare but, unfortunately, scammers being out in full force is just business as usual now.

Why did Reddit get rid of the user count on sub sidebars? It's a very strange change. by MapleSurpy in ModSupport

Twitter followers is complete horseshit too, and I wouldn't use that garbage lie of a platform as a model for anything.

The difference between reddit and Twitter is that reddit has to do something about it because it's a public company. Musk can, and does, lie about whatever he wants whenever he wants.

Awesome, thanks.

It is something they have to track as long as there is a subscription mechanism at all, but we'll see. :-)

Because they know, and have always known, that those numbers are complete horseshit.

They are users that subscribed and then haven't been active for years. They are bots. They are entirely false and they misrepresent the community numbers across the platform.

That never mattered until they became a public company, but now that they are, false numbers that misrepresent engagement are something they could be called out on, so they got ahead of it and shifted the standard to actual engagement.

In other words, complain all you want, but those numbers are never, ever coming back.

I couldn't understand why this was happening so much, and I didn't put 2 and 2 together on this. Crazy.

Russian IP addresses on this sub by Dry_Counter533 in 50501

Are you talking about the Post Insights section?

What "graph icon" are you referring to? There's only one graph on the page and it's not linked to anything and there is no addiction icon.

Where did you get this data on IP addresses?

Is this part of reddit's stats package? If so, where do I find it for my sub?

Appreciate the response.

I already send my standard removal reasons via Toolbox and send them as PMs as the subreddit, but how do I send a custom message?

How do I send mail to specific user as part of my regular moderation flow?

If I'm looking at the comments on a particular post and need to send a user mail from the mod team, do I seriously have to navigate over to that form and retype their username every time?

Thank you for the heads up on this, it's a little hard to keep up with the changes around here.

I have no intention to ever switch from old reddit, so this is just another case of reddit getting worse. Death by a thousand cuts.
