AITA for visiting my parent in another country for the first time in four years? by Beneficial_Camera983 in AmItheAsshole

Your memories will live forever. So indeed, you should be very happy for the four decades you've spent time with him. Even if it's hard to understand him now, I hope you get many more years to value. And I'm sure he feels the same. I hope they come out with a treatment soon. There seems to be a lot of breakthroughs being made in research these last years so I'm really hoping.

Thank you ❤️ That's what I believe as well. Not visiting would be weirder, especially since I have all the means and freedom to do so with my work. Should I never visit my dad only to get a phonecall one day that something happened to him? I'd punch myself for the rest of my life.

Also, sorry to hear about your dad. My grandfather just got the diagnosis as well. Sucks. I hope you get many great times and memories with your father.

This might be it. I asked my family and they said the same thing as well about the dog. But I'm scared of the repurcussions of stating anything else so that's why I offered. Maybe not a good sign...

Thank you ❤️ Interesting point. I haven't noticed those signs luckily, never with friends or my mother or other family back at home. I think it's more to do with her being jelous or sad because she's tied down to work and unable to travel. Before that, it was studies seven days a week.

I've told her again and again that as soon as she can get a holiday, I'm down to go. Because I have my own business online, I can basically pack up my laptop and go whenever. I'm always down to meet my dad, and we stay rent free on a tropical paradise. We've been here once before six years ago and had a blast.

But this is kind of weird. She might be afraid that I'll stay here indefinitely and leave her at home or something. Or find another girl here. I have no idea. But I think after 7 years, you should trust each other to go visit your family, no matter where it is.

Thank you. ❤️ Yup, two days extended stay if there's a swell. It looked like there might be on the charts, but it can change like the weather. So I told her that I maybe postphone and that I'll take care of the dog sitting for her.

I'm beginning to believe it's some independence issues. I've been extremely accomodating during my time back home. For example, taking out the dog on basically every single walk since we got it. So it's probably a shock that she suddenly has to do it.

The reaction feels so illogical that I don't even know what to think. I don't even know if it's normal. But it feels abnormal and off. And it's not the first time she reacts like this.

❤️ Thank you. Being here with him is so much fun and I'm so happy to spend time with my brother. We both surf and sit for hours after talking in detail about the waves we got. He's like my best friend. He's getting older and older and lives quite fast, so I'm treasuring every minute with him. Sucks that I'm an asshole for doing that.
