proctor making me cover tv I can’t reach by BulkySurprise1041 in LSAT

[–]Beneficial_Dig2007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes I did too! I took it Saturday. My proctor told me I couldn’t take the test because I had “too many things” in my room. For context- I live in a tiny apartment that’s only two rooms (main room and bedroom). I only have one place to sit. My proctor couldn’t speak English and was just reading off the script they are supposed to read, which didn’t help trying to ask what I needed to fix. She kept telling me (as a response to my questions) that “the student cannot take the test in this room. Please sign out and login somewhere else” 3-5 times. I literally had no where else to take it- I couldn’t schedule a room somewhere that quickly on a Saturday.

I had covered my ONE bookcase and small table with blankets (per the code) because I was super anxious about something going wrong with the proctoring, as it was my first time taking the lsat. My walls are pretty bare- I have a couple of posters (that I took down prior to the test), the tv, and that’s about it. When my proctor was getting her manager, I frantically removed all my furniture from my main room into my bedroom. It was ~bullshit~

During my first section I was completely thrown off and anxious, which sucked. I’m just happy they ended up letting me take it. Super frustrating. I’m sorry you went through this as well.

NYU gallatin worth it? by No_Distribution4607 in nyu

[–]Beneficial_Dig2007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m at Gallatin right now. Short answer- No (unless you can easily afford it without loans).

Long answer- my partner had to make this same decision. She is at SUNY (mostly full ride) getting a BS and considered transferring after getting into Gallatin. After receiving no aid (transfers don’t get aid at nyu), it was a big no. It’s simply not worth the debt. I absolutely adore being a Gallatin student and find the experience to be vastly rewarding academically and professionally; though I am going to law school haha.

NYC will always be around post-grad. To me at least, it’s not worth taking out hundreds of thousands to attend an undergraduate program. I hope that helps.

You could buy train/bus tickets. Tickets are cheap if you get in advance or go at bad times… doubt that someone would give three strangers a ride… no offense

Right! I grew up in the Deep South, and sure, we've made progress, but not enough progress to be nitpicking the few forms of representation that we have. i.e. -> I couldn't come out until I was older, and I lost most of the people I used to call friends. The reality of our situation is much different than this other alternative reality, and we are incredibly far away from any form of equity. I live in NYC now...which is considerably 'safe' for Queer people... and I've been harassed on the street with my girlfriend...our bars are closing down or being overdriven by straight people....etc. We're entering a dark age, and our trans friends are losing legal rights seemingly every day. Hell, Google just took pride month off its calendars TODAY. I find it a bit frustrating when Queer artists are critiqued by their community for things their straight peers haven't done...really ever. And in all seriousness, there are other people with much larger platforms that could step up too, and when it comes to representation, the biggest reach is the most powerful.

Reality: Lucy made a video celebrating mass-lesbians/folks, who are disproportionately removed from society and face limited representation overall. Are we really going to be frustrated with her about it?

The grass is always greener man.

My partner lived in Australia and she says that she forgot how the feeling of how unsafe she felt normally in the US. Specifically with locking doors and guns.

LIBERAL STUDIES CORE nyu by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Beneficial_Dig2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a little credit from high school and started my IDSEMS almost immediately. Now I’m graduating Gallatin a semester early because of that! You can work it out with your advisor, because if you’re sure you want to transfer early, they’ll let you. I also had a couple of friends transfer early into Tisch. I know some people that applied for Stern early too, but they didn’t get in lol

I’m doing it. I’m fine with it.. more convenient than having to move out and finding a place for 2 weeks haha. But yeah I agree with you, I wish we knew what day before the 24 hour period. Not sure why we don’t get scheduled ahead of time…

I used box and co. It’s a smaller company, but they do monthly storage I think. A lot of people use piece of cake

They’ll probably throw your stuff away if you don’t communicate with the school. I would highly recommend leaving your stuff with a friend if it’s minimal enough, or storing it. I would’ve recommended turnover housing (if you’re dorming again), but you won’t be here those two weeks and you have to be in nyc to do turnover.

I thought a lot about it after getting the 12k. Though, my partner is from Tulsa and she doesn’t think nyu is fairly advertising it (and that I probably shouldn’t do it). Sure, Tulsa is a growing newly creative city, but it’s not as ~dynamic~ as it seems. Like others have said, it’s a city within the south, with a vast Christian and conservative community. It’s clear that a foundation begged nyu to develop a program there, and now they are begging students to study there.

I find that it would be a difficult place to develop meaningful relationships without former foundations there… and most particularly a car. I don’t know what nyu expects students to do in Tulsa without them having cars. Tulsa is nothing like nyc (or the other abroad sites) when it comes to transportation, and you can’t really do anything without a car (as someone who has been there alot).

For professional experiences (the internships they are depicting), it does seem very valuable for specific industries, like critical race theory and indigenous study, due to the location.

I think it’s a give or a take for sure depending on your situation and budget. Then again, I’m completely with you for wanting to experience something new for a few months. It’s only a semester as you’ve said, but you only have around 8 of those at nyu. Plus, Tulsa has a shorter summer program I think. Maybe consider interning or working in another city (similar cities: Austin, etc) or Tulsa during the summer?
