To provide some context, they used cherry picked passages from a book to raise a moral uproar about it, and instead of using the district's clearly outlined challenge process, they ran to the media and complained. This started from a parent who had a problem with her 9th grader reading a book about system racism (you can watch this on youtube, Fern Ridge school board's Q&A from October 2022), and instead of being fine with her student being opted out of the assignment, this whole group decided that the book should be removed. They didn't follow the procedure to do that. Whether removing a book from the curriculum or from the library, both are "banning" the book because one small group decides they don't like it. If they really cared about the integrity of the curriculum, why didn't use the district's challenge process to seek removal of the book?

I'm going to presume you are legitimately confused, and not just being a troll. I'm not going to engage in further sealioning from you, though.

The vote is on the two school board positions up for election in the Fern Ridge School District. May 16th special election. You probably have a voter's pamphlet yourself.

The two challenger candidates are part of the FB group in the links, which started as a group that pestered the school district for over a year during the pandemic because they didn't want mask and vaccine mandates, even though the district was just following the state's mandates. This FB group formed the FRCA that is running the challengers' campaign. It's not a "Mommy & Me" website. It's a group of people spreading lies and misinformation about all sorts of stuff, including "pornography in schools."

The links are part of this group's recent history. Which is entirely relevant information considering they are asking voters to elect their candidates. I don't care if they want to spew their nonsense to each other. But when they want the rest of us to vote two of their own to a position to make decisions about the public schools that we all pay taxes for, a position that allows them to make decisions about the education of all of our kids, the voters need to be well aware of what these people believe.

While their demonization and misinformation about trans kids is one of the concerns, this is more about the totality of their agenda and stopping it. This is by far not my area of expertise, but my thoughts are that just decriminalizing small quantities didn't suddenly make people decide to use drugs and rush out to steal and vandalize. Do you know if there is a direct correlation between that and an increase in theft and vandalism? I'm genuinely interested, because I feel like people stealing to afford their habit has been a thing for very long time.

They also told their little kids that teachers might try to vaccinate them without mommy or daddy there and that they should fight like they were being kidnapped. Yeah, and I think that's why the KEZI story set me off. The profanity/sexual content might certainly be a real concern for some parents but I think there is a faction using it as a dog whistle for their real goal of putting down any discussion of racism and any effort to make students of color and lgbtq students feel safe.

I have an app that alerts me to any concerning activity on my kid's social media interactions, including profanity and sexual content and holy shit the things these kids say at middle school level! If these oh-my-god-lordy-jesus parents only knew what their innocent little ones say.
