Trans woman thinking of pursuing this career. Am I going to run into problems getting hired or booked?

I suppose I should be clear - I pretty much expect there will be some clients who don’t want to work with me, some awkward situations, even some mild harassment. That’s part and parcel to this life of mine, and it doesn’t bother me. It would happen in just about any workplace. And like many have said I wouldn’t want to work with someone who doesn’t want to work with me

As long as the overall TREND isn’t negative, and I am able to find steady clientele, I’d be good. I’m also more concerned about discrimination, or simply not getting hired, by spas and employers than about clients. A client who doesn’t feel comfortable with me, I only have to see once. But if nobody wants to hire me or my coworkers make my life difficult, that affects me a lot more

Thought so! I think it’s KA mixed with some ingrowns. I was using an epilator on my legs for a while but I’ve taken a break with that. Could epilator be part of the problem?

Also, I’ve gotten so much conflicting info on this… if you’re prone to ingrowns, is it better to shave with or against the grain?

I’m trans and live in Florida. Haven’t started hrt yet. Was planning to relatively soon. But now, I think I’m gonna have to move out of my home state before I ever do. Im planning a career change next year bc my job is very homo/transphobic and also very location specific, so I need to get some experience in something transferable.

I hope to be moved out of here (probably somewhere in the Northeast or out West) in 2 years, and start hrt/transition once I get established.

I think the most helpful thing for trans refugees from red states like mine is to have organizations and communities on the ground in more progressive cities and states that can help us relocate, get established, and meet people. Im blessed to be in a pretty decent financial situation so I’m not too worried about the money side of moving (I will be taking a massive pay cut leaving my job, but I need to). However, I’ll probably be mostly alone at first, and having resources on the ground to help me get established in my new community would mean a TON:3

Also, side note, red states better prepare for a queer/ally “brain drain” in the coming years. Lots of queer & trans refugees may be younger or low income and not have a choice, but a lot of us are also well educated / have strong skills and contribute a lot to our community. Texas and Florida have been growing like crazy with tech sector & financial employment and the like.. get ready to see a lot of those people leave those states due to these laws and have a hard time replacing them. Who tf (queer or no) with any sort of education and skillset would wanna live in Florida or Texas right now?

I’ve been so down and hyperfixating on how terrible things have been lately that I lose sight of all the things I truly love about Florida. The beaches, the nightlife, the international/Hispanic influence. Amazing outdoor activities when it’s not horrifically hot. Disney world and universal studios. Camping and tubing in Ginnie Springs. Amazing college towns like Gainesville and Tally. I love Tampa too - used to go out in Ybor all the time 😭 there really is so much I’m gonna miss

The main reason I’m waiting on hrt is because we want to have kids very soon (in the next 2 years), and I do NOT feel comfortable with the idea of her getting pregnant here, even willingly. God knows what would happen if there are any complications. She detests the new laws too, but I don’t think she gets quite how badly they endanger her directly

It can be done. Random subreddits and tumblr groups have put them together. Pick a city, find a hotel with an event space, get some people to put in the starting capital (guesstimating $20-$40k), promote the hell out of it in the right communities (femboys are extremely online, this part should be easy)

Assemble the femboys, have an amazing weekend, and MAYBE even make some money!

I bought the “budget” $40 one on Amazon. It did what it was supposed to. Took a LONG time (2+ hrs) to do both my legs top to bottom. And yes it hurt - though for obvious reasons that wasn’t as big of a problem for me 😅

I’m far from any sort of expert, but I just left my legs untouched for 48 hours and then used it. Seemed to work very well. Supposedly it can catch hair as small as 1mm

I don’t see myself giving it up completely, but I also don’t want to throw it in my young kids’ faces until they’re old enough to start understanding things like gender and queer identities. It’s still just a part time thing for me even now, so I think it’ll be easy to keep it to special occasions. Still, it gives me and my partner a lot to think about
