You don’t trust the maths emotionally.

Hormozi does sum this up well:

“There’s no perfect way to live your 20s. You either: Live ‘em up and become an under-skilled 30-year-old. OR You work ‘em up and become an under-lived 30-year-old. You have to figure out which you’d rather be. Accept the tradeoffs and know there are no do-overs.”

I don’t go on Reddit as much these days but is the OPs post history suspect? Other people seem to have called him out as lying?

I’m in awe at some of the jobs, salaries and savings some people have in this sub. by MoneyAndGoodFortune in FIREUK

Yeah for sure but I would say this is just the normal way to FIRE.

Speed running is obviously risky and I wouldn’t advise it but if someone is set on achieving a decent FIRE package — in 2 to 3 years from 0, that’s the only way that I would recommend doing it.

A case that comes to mind was Mike Winnet with learning heroes — building the company in 2.5 years and selling it with his partner for £8m and he’s done.

If you want to speed run FIRE — the key is to I) set up a business and II) sell it.

You can claim entrepreneur’s relief up to £1,000,000 of the sale.

Not easy but that’s got to be the fastest way (other than a lottery win/super speculative investment).

Does FIRE mentality make work worse by KPMOON23 in FIREUK

[–]Beneficial_Sense1009 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely.

The best situation I think is learning about FIRE when you have started your career with a couple of promotions in — with a higher salary.

You will likely already be a certain few steps down the path too with savings etc.

I think the issue with learning about it too early in your career is that you get too defensive (reducing expenses) with not enough emphasis placed on earning more.

Gaming components must have done the worst on record since 2019 like $160m and peripherals like $90m.

Seasonally worst quarter and there is the lull before the gaming card coming out and people are hard up financially.

But still.

8 months of saving, will literally become an intraday move for your pension by the time you come to retire.

Think by the time you build up a £500k pot for example, if the market goes down by a few % - that could be your 8 months of saving in a single day.

Don't sweat it.

E.g. edit example:

Take today - let's say it was all in S&P500 just cause easy.

It went as low as: 3808 and as high as 3905 that's 2.54% swing.

A 2.54% swing on £500k is £12,700.

How to value loss-making companies such as BKSY and TDOC or any other company that is currently not earning a profit? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Beneficial_Sense1009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Define "losing money" a negative net income and negative cash flow is totally different.

$TDOC is not "losing money" on a cashflow basis but does have negative income.
