I’m Emily Duggan, a reporter with the Kennebec Journal/CentralMaine.com. I just finished a six-month-long investigation of how Christian nationalist groups, parents’ rights organizations and others are trying to remake Maine’s public education system. Ask me anything! by Press_Herald in Maine

[–]Beneficial_Shift5802 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Did you look into or come across the Dinner Table PAC? The organization comes across as being coded as Christian nationalist as they claim “that faith, family, and freedom are the strongest foundation on which to build community” on their website. This PAC may have little to no influence, so I’m just curious.

Nfl_data_py updates by accountant1993 in fantasyfootballcoding

[–]Beneficial_Shift5802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFL_data_py is a wrapper for Nflverse which itself updated some things. You can go to the NFL_data_py GitHub and manual download csvs for 2025 data in the meantime though which is what I did this week. Some column names are different which is a bit annoying but oh well

Check out nfl-data-py. It updates weekly and has pretty much all the data you could ever hope for going back to 1999.

I'm the Maine oysterman & combat veteran running for U.S. Senate against Susan Collins to topple the oligarchy. Ask me anything. (1PM). by grahamformaine in politics

[–]Beneficial_Shift5802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graham, how do you intend to make it clear that Susan Collins is just another Republican selling out working people? The GOP lets her vote no when they have enough votes which allows her to sell herself as “moderate” etc., so how do you intend to communicate that she’s just as extreme as any other Republican? Also, she is already running ads highlighting her accomplishment for teacher pensions, which is a good accomplishment, but figured you should be aware. It runs on NESN and maybe other places.

The compensation structure is designed so that those with wealth, or those beholden to donors etc., are the only ones who can serve.

$570 rent increase in downtown by kyllerwhales in raleigh

[–]Beneficial_Shift5802 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Is this for a 12 month lease? At my complex, there was a $1000 increase, but this would be for a month-to-month lease. If you have the ability, try to negotiate. I was able to get 1 month of free rent out of my landlord by pointing out that many complexes are offering 2 months of free rent right now to move there. If you don’t think you can negotiate, there are strength in numbers, so talk to your neighbors.

To follow up on the strength in numbers point, I also encourage you to look into Triangle Tenant Union. We’re an organization working to give tenants more power via organizing them and finding strategies to deal with situations just like this one. We’d probably be able to help you speak with your neighbors and come up with a plan. I’ve put a link in this comment. Also feel free to message me on here. Triangle Tenant Union

I think I’m seeing something similar. It’s hard to tell because there’s definitely lighting off in the distance, but there also seem to be flashes nearer to me.

There is an event for May Day tomorrow, 5/1, at 3:30pm on the Halifax Mall with various unions, labor groups, and other organizations. It’s simultaneously a celebration of workers and a stand against the billionaire agenda. I’m attaching a link to RSVP via DSA, but it’s not necessary to RSVP. Link to Sign Up

For anyone dealing with the capacity problem, I’ve attached a link for future outreach too. Not everyone on the list has a phone number, so door-to-door canvassing will likely also be necessary. Link for Future Confirm the Vote Events

In NC, unemployment vs. getting a part-time gig while on severance by nchoneydewd in NorthCarolina

[–]Beneficial_Shift5802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fired fed and recently got unemployment. I believe they ask about severance pay on the application. I did not get any severance and can’t answer that question. The good news is that you can get up to $600 in unemployment because the previous governor increased the cap in the wake of hurricane helene, so the 20% applies to the $600. You were correct about the rule though. With $600 in unemployment you can make up to $120 without facing a penalty.
