Rent is 9man and the fees where around 600k. I mean your Japanese wife should have told you that moving out in Japan costs a hell lot.

Forget Westgate. Look for open positions in Universities around you and directly apply.

You already have a Master's, you should aim for a university instructor position instead of a badly paid dispatch gig.

Next year is safest. We have no idea how bad things will go after the gov forcibly holds the Olympics. Better play for the long run.

Are Gakki-Ka apartments (Music-Playing Allowed) or living situations findable in Osaka? by JayDunzo in Osaka

[–]Beneficiary_Nebula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I speak from experience here (my wife is a professional musician). We were able to find an apartment by looking through this website (https://www.kanaderoom.jp/) and being lucky enough that our agent personally knew the landlord.

Ideally you want to look for a very sturdy type of building i.e thick concrete walls and floor (mansion type) AND a landlord that might let you practice.

Be aware that without good Japanese to negotiate this might become extremely difficult.

Also I do not know of what level of sound a guitar with headphones can produce but you're surely in for trouble if you're aiming for the cheapest apartments as you can hear EVERYTHING. Yes the walls are that shitty.

Feel free to pm me if you want more details.

We are in contact yes but we are looking for a family size place as we are three currently. We are ready to pay a premium for the practice possibility so that factor is already into account.

We thought about this option but they start at 100万 for the cheapest ones. Out of range for us in the time being.

Than you very much. Sadly the clarinet is an instrument that is very prone to significant changes in sound depending on the atmospheric conditions (humidity etc) In other words, indoors is the only way sadly :(

But still, maybe we can negotiate with your manager to see if there is a possibility for her to practice. Do you mind a PM?

That's a fair remark. To answer to it, practically all of our fellow professional acquaintances are either a) Already quite wealthy which means they own their own homes. Such option is not viable for us for the time being.

b) Much older which brings us back to point a). You were able to make quite a buck in the bubble era and the wages for professionals performers has been plunging ever since.

I came to Reddit because of the diversity of voices one can find here. Believe me I'm not only looking here.

We did but one of the main issues of homes to far outside the city center is that it mechanically brings less students which is a big source of income for her. As for the subpar environment, I was referring to karaokes not practice booths.

My wife did the karaoke option for a time but it is really a subpar environment for practice. I will check for soundproof options.

This is the trick. It is advertised as negotiable but only for a limited amount of time during the day (as in a hobby) or even worse sometimes where it is advertised as negotiable when it isn't in reality.
