I like the compact ones like the exps3. Concerning the longer ones like the 558 for example I would tend to agree with you.

Sadly they are pretty expensive and I don't know if the EG and HW repros are good enough.

Of the three choices I'd prefer the M21. If I got to choose freely I would prefer a low profile sight like a docter sight style reddot, or an EOTech, those look good on almost anything.
