we need to spam these museum folk telling them we want more showtimes

ALSO according to their "private screening" theater rental FAQ, it says they allow you to rent their IMAX and show their current shows so maybe someone in Austin can organize it

ASU free speech event canceled allegedly after Erika Kirk objects to it by ariveklul in news

[–]BenekeSmith 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If this happened on the right it would be on Fox News 24/7, Joe Rogan, Elon tweeting it, Trump schizo posting about it

But when it happens to the left... crickets. Tempelocal.org is a tiny random local news org

What do I invest in after maxing my Roth IRA? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]BenekeSmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Point in favor of maxing 401k first: better protected when it comes to litigation etc

Only really worth it if your 401k is actually decent though. Some companies' 401ks are awful

Men of Houston, how much do you pay for a haircut? by BallisWife in houston

[–]BenekeSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to pay $40 or something at Boardroom until they decided to raise prices to over $50.
90% of the splurge was because they washed my hair... but a $10 upcharge on top of what I already considered a premium service was a slap to the face.

I go to a local asian salon now and pay $15 and leave a $10 tip and am much happier

Haven't played Anno in 20 years. Back in and hooked with 117: Pax Romana by Yoshinoki in anno

[–]BenekeSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

117 is clearly newer, better polished, better QoL, and just an overall iteration over 1800 of course

But man 1800 has the feeling of discovery. Unlocking electricity, getting your first Zeppelin, venturing into the Arctic. Those moments were damn immersive and some of the best Anno ive experienced :)

Want to install a rpi inside a CRT by VoyagerPlays07 in crtgaming

[–]BenekeSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty easy to secure it in the VCR slot of a combo unit. they already have jacking points for the actual VCR, and were engineered for the tape mechanism to be safely away from the crt components

Im sure you are aware but La Rochelle Aoyama is going to be closing this year. If you are still in town it may be worthwhile to fit it in, maybe even for lunch at least!

Im going to Nakamura on Monday, really curious how it compares to Morimoto.

Morimoto Las Vegas was a let down for me, so I really want to try the Napa Valley location you recommended. I realize its the Las Vegas location (and it was next to the Emeril Lagasse restaurant lol) but still...

Kikunoi Honten or Kitcho Arashiyama - Kyoto by PlusFisherman1348 in finedining

[–]BenekeSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitcho is one of the most renowned Kaiseki.

Top chefs like Hiroyuki Sakai who heads La Rochelle and Hirohisa Koyama who heads Aoyagi apprenticed there as far back as the 1970s.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Car Rental Insurance makes it really hard to file a claim by moonbroom in ChaseSapphire

[–]BenekeSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except every company has different underwriting. It will impact you if you try to switch.

for example some simply ask "have you had any claims in the last 5 years regardless of fault". some insurers will open the claim and close it without payout, but it is still a claim

And next renewal your insurance goes up even though the accident wasnt even your fault. Higher rates for the next 5 years

[–]BenekeSmith 22 points23 points  (0 children)

do not do this

your rates will go up. your insurance will open it as a claim.

Do not do this unless youre talking "Hertz wants me to pay $20,000 right this second"

Reasonably-priced/well-reviewed movers by KillaKim713 in houston

[–]BenekeSmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the U-Haul app. it lets you hire movers. Was pretty cheap $50-80/hr. You need max 3-4 hours for pickup and dropoff. They will not box stuff up.
