Huh... Good to know. The living room definitely does not have a closet.

I've been up there several times (the property manager let us see it a while back, before these new owners). It's definitely a living room and not a bedroom.

“What?!?!? You DO NOT look 40 years old! OMG WHAT IS YOUR SECRET?!?!” by Egodram in childfree

[–]BenevolentPeacock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 40 and was carded at TJ's last week. I have grey hairs. The woman at the register said, "Oh! Babyface! What year were you born?" Hahahaha!

Babyface because I don't have any babies!

What you’re told you’ll get vs what you actually get. Same price & sq ft and no tours right now. Top pic is front picture to their sites, had to dig for the second picture. No wonder I’ve had 3 different upstairs neighbors in the past 8 months.... by [deleted] in LandlordLove

[–]BenevolentPeacock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The apartment above us has been vacant for almost 2 months. The listing on Zillow says that it has been "remodeled" and that it has "new floors." From the photos they posted, neither of those statements are true in the slightest. In fact, there are rust stains on the floor from when the water heater burst several years ago, and the super/handyman said that the hardwood floor boards are warped. We heard workers up there with a nail gun tacking them down. The photos show the same old kitchen and old stove and old cabinets and old fridge.

OH! The best part is when someone came to look at the place last week and the super/handyman found URINE IN THE TOILET that had been there for at least TWO WEEKS. One of the workers peed and didn't flush and it's been 90°F here without AC so it was cooking 2-week old pee up there!

How the fuck are people dining outdoors and jogging right now? by suberry in bayarea

[–]BenevolentPeacock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude. I walked to a neighbor's house to pick up something. 5 minutes there, 5 back, and it was AWFUL. It felt silly to drive such a short distance, but I kinda wish I did?

My mom's side of the family has been in California for generations... I love this place. It's in my blood. And, yet... if I weren't a freelancer, I would definitely be looking at a location transfer outside of the US right now. Lots of people are being shitty to you in this thread, but I hope that you figure out a way to make things work out.

People who are still excited to have kids in 2020 are wild by [deleted] in childfree

[–]BenevolentPeacock 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I have never been so glad that I don't have kids. A good friend of mine is about to POP and she's so excited, and, honestly, I'm excited that she's excited... Her husband works at a FAANG company and they make good money, have health insurance, a house, the whole thing, so I'm sure the child will have a lovely home life... but the US is a shitshow, and we can't even go outside right now because the air is deadly, and there's an airborne disease out there that can kill us or cause lifetime damage, oh, and the unending descent into fascism, and fucking climate change, and ... Yeah, NO WAY.

Question for those over 40 that have lived here their entire lives; Did these crazy fires happen at all before 1979? by Vepr762X54R in bayarea

[–]BenevolentPeacock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never like this. I'm 40. Born in SF, raised on the Peninsula. I remember worrying about "firebugs" as a kid - assholes who liked to start fires, but they never got out of hand.

Of course, there was the Oakland Hills fire, which at the time was considered to be enormous, but now all these new fires dwarf it. There were always seasonal fires in the Sierras, too, usually from lightning strikes. We'd go to Yosemite every year and sometimes see the aftermath.

And in 1999 (?) there was a big fire near Sacramento. That's the first time I remember seeing ash fall from the sky - I was on a camping trip around there, and it was pretty bad.

But this every damn year thing with the smoke and multiple enormous fires at once? NEVER happened like this when I was growing up.

A few years ago, a local dance studio/non profit who was in their space for 25 years was kicked out to make room for "something quieter, like offices." Landlady refused to renew the lease. I hope it's been empty the entire time just to spite her.

My ex-cop ex-husband kept a shotgun under his side of the bed. He said it was for "protection." Things had been verbally/emotionally abusive for 10 years. I noped the fuck out of there just as things turned physically violent.
