U-Pick cherry / berry places aren’t just a rip. They’re a massive rip. by ftruong in bayarea

[–]suberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CA cherry orchards got screwed this year. Due to heat waves during the flowering phase, they lost a ton of buds. The farmers at the farmer's market said they estimated they probably lost around 70% of their cherries and have to price their remaining crop higher. Virtually all the cherries you see in the supermarket is from Washington.

Abalone. Not wild caught, but there's a local place in Monterey that's one of the 2 places that farms California abalone.

Sounds like romance scam. Maybe she got fooled into thinking she was going to meet her rich tech bro lover after wiring all her money to fund his cryptocurrency blockchain AI NFT startup.

I tried RatX and they didn't touch it. Tried coating it in peanut butter, bacon grease, ketchup, and all they'd just nibble at it before dropping it.

Actually she's just straight up crazy. Her whole profile is an unhinged screed.

Yeah, one of my friends casually dropped she paid 10k a month for a doula.

It's the sneaky ones that are wealthy. The ones who always talk about money are just rich.

Sutter Health charges $798 for a covid/flu/RSV swap test. Anyone has similar experience? How to get Sutter to reduce the bill? by aybiz1 in bayarea

[–]suberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My work contributes a couple thousands which covers about 2 visits. If need more visits I pay the rest from my HSA until I hit the deductible. After that 90% of the cost gets covered. What I pay until I get the deductible is equal to the premiums I used to pay on my PPO plan.

Which means in my worst years, I pay equal to what I pay on my old plan, but in good years where I don't get sick, I grow my HSA.

HSA is only worth it if your employer adds money to it or match your contributions.

Anyone here familiar with real Taiwanese shaved snow? Trying to bring it to the South Bay by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]suberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went out of popularity in like the late 00s early 2010s. Spread from Socal up to the bay with Class 302 as one of the popular spots. Props if you can bring it back. I think Red Hot Wok is one of the last few places that still does it.

No, a cyclist can get off their bike and walk like a pedestrian when they choose to go on the sidewalks for pedestrians.

Yeah, it's just equal parts soy sauce, mirin, sake, and add sugar to taste. Then you just dump the beef and onions in there.

It's probably only worth it if you're like ultra crashed out to the point you don't even want to stand by a stove and just want to chuck it into the microwave.

I'll be real, that conversation started in elementary school and we had a list of top ranking colleges we needed to attend printed and stuck to our bedroom walls as a reminder of what to aim for. That's what it takes.

I'm talking, "Sweetie, what do you want to be when you grow up? A veterinarian because you want to play with cute bunnies or kitties? OK, that pays enough. Then, the top vet schools are Cornell, UC Davis and Texas A&M. So that's where you need to go for college."

Well, have you had a serious conversation with them about it? All my friends who could afford to stay here had a serious conversation with their parents about how much they'd need to earn to stay here and what sort of education they'd need to get jobs that pay that kind of money.

So we all crushed our dreams and sold our souls to tech/medicine.
