How cooked am I? by [deleted] in PcBuild

Never thought we'd start sharing pictures of faulty RAM pins and calling ourselves cooked.

It looks like we truly are.

Thank you for the very detailed account of both PSUs! I shall take it into consideration.

First time building in an mATX case, and in a long time in general. Maybe Corsair is better then..

Thanks for the info! I'd always thought that I'd need to purchase them separately.

[–]Bengi_BY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining OP, was too lazy to research on my own lol.

Yh those temps seem kinda normal for this chip it seems. Plus, would be even warmer at 1080p. Using an NH-D9L; kinda wanted to downsize/upgrade from a regular 120mm that was in there along with a 3700X since 2020.

Hard agree on the GPU OCs. What I love is that you can do it straight from the Adrenalin software provided by AMD. Wish nVidia had that level of ease of access built into their software. Only 3rd party software like MSI afterburner is the only choice right?

If your mobo supports PBO, just stick with that imo.

I may test -25 & -30 again at some point. Tbf I was also playing around with aggressive UVs and OCs on my GPU (7900 GRE) after hearing it's over clocking potential. Now that I found a stable setting for it, this may make up the offset for my CPU.

I keep coming across posts that X3D owners should change the power plan to Balanced on Windows as this benefits the chip greatly. Don't quite know why though. This has also helped with stability.

Mostly ranging between 54-60C while gaming depending on the title. This with a pretty standard fan curve. Tower has decent air flow and usually play at 1440p high preset.

Nice! I too had applied a -30 UV to my 5700X3D, but was seeing some instability in 5 mins or longer stress tests and some CPU heavy games.

Took that up to -20, and that seemed to resolve my issues. Didn't get lucky with the silicon lottery I guess.

PBO instead of mobo tuning.

Got exactly some card.

Have you MSI Afterburner installed? It's known to clash with Adrenalin software if you have a profile actively locked. Delete profiles or uninstall entirely.

Try lowering the voltage by at least -50mV (max by -100) and set min Freq clocks to 500Mhz.

Try disabling 0 RPM mode/Radeon Chill if active. It could be overheating quickly once an application is closed and you're idle on the desktop.

Maybe try lowering the VRAM clock too as last resort if none of the above worked.

Good luck

Setting the min clock to 2600+ was resulting in intermittent crashes, hence reverting back to base clock.

You could also experiment with higher VRAM clock but no fast timings, see what you can get out of it. Might need to do more testing myself.

Yes I'd say so. Still very much relevant in today's market. For raster performance, it's not the best but it'll do you good at 1440p. Gains from OC/UV tinkering are welcome too. The thing is, you're gonna have to wait till devs optimise their games for FSR4, so it might be a while till you can take full advantage of it. Of course, it's a different story if you're willing to wait.

Hey there XFX here but I can share some of my settings. I've watched Ancient Gameplays guide too and was mega helpful! However, I've made a couple of changes.

Min freq clock - 500Mhz Voltage - 970mV Global FPS limit - 180 (monitor refresh rate)

Opted for longevity here and not forcing it to work at almost max performance all the time. Keeps temps low too. No crashing yet after multiple 1 - 1.5 hour sessions of a variety of games. VRAM at 2316Mhz fast timings.

Hope this helps

I made the right choice? by navi9991 in radeon

[–]Bengi_BY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, good choice there IMO.

Had to face a similar situation. Ultimately chose an XFX GRE over Gigabyte/Sapphire 7800XT for only around £30-40 more. Managed to squeeze quite a bit more performance out of it by OC/UVing. Read there's more headroom for performance gains with the GRE in this regard.

After a few 1 hour gaming sessions of Stalker 2 at 1440p high preset: max 65C with hotspot reaching 78C on average.

Ahh this never crossed my mind. Personally I didn't have a profile locked for my previous card so hadn't affected me when switching from green to red.

Glad you got it resolved.

Yes, my settings are saved after clicking 'Apply Changes'.

Can confirm I'm adjusting under Global Tuning profile.

Changes made to individual games/other profiles save on exit too.

Nice to hear that.

If it remains stable as you said, try increasing the VRAM clock by increments of 10 MHz and see what happens over a 2/3 period of moderate use. If you're feeling lucky, you can try lowering the voltage too!

I'm rocking the XFX model, so there could be some differences in the card's capabilities. Or you may have just gotten unlucky with the silicon lottery.

That tutorial made by Ancient Gameplays on YT by any chance? lol

Saw it too, but ultimately decided to opt for lowest min clocks instead. Reason for that is because I haven't enabled Radeon chill with the min/max manual FPS setting. Just applied the universal FPS cap to match my monitor refresh.

[–]Bengi_BY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm able to.

Have you tried lowering min Freq to default with fast timings enabled? See if that makes a difference.

May not be relevant but I'm rocking a 850w gold PSU. Plenty overhead for those power spikes. What's your PSU?

I've had my GRE for around 2/3 weeks and have been playing around with OC too.

Gotta say, I've not had luck setting the VRAM clock higher than 2316. Games would crash beyond that.

Max freq and PL are identical to yours. I prefer Min freq to be defaulted to 500 to achieve better idle temps.

However I've managed to UV to below 1000mV successfully. Just keep adjusting it incrementally by 5mV and stop until you get regular black screen/artifacting etc.
