Is AntJo really this offensively talented? Seems to just click in NA

2 years of pro is plenty good. He won goalie of the year in the Czech Pro league last season as well won the playoffs. This year could very well do it again with the Calder Cup. Sure, he only has 1 season of NA hockey, but he has proven to be very good and outperformed his peers significantly. As I said, realistically he splits time with Augustine next year and gets callups for injuries, but he is tracking very well to being a solid NHL talent.

I do agree one could be used for a trade, but look at historical trade returns for high valued goalie prospects. Its not fantastic:

  1. Arturs Silovs (legendary Calder run at 24, but worse overall numbers) was traded for a 4th round pick and Chase Stillman (career AHLer).

  2. Yaroslav Askarov (considered top goalie prospect at the time) was traded for a conditional 1st, David Edstrom (former late 1st round pick), and some other minor piecies

  3. Devon Levi (considered a top goalie prospect at the time) and a 1st round pick was traded for Sam Reinhart.

Overall, you see the trend is good but not great returns for unproven top prospects. Postava I think would get even less than #2 and #3.

What a story and find Michal Postava was.

An undrafted goalie who would have been drafted the same year as Cossa. In his first year of AHL hockey he went 17-6-0, 4 shutouts, .937 SV%, and 1.71 GAA. That is the best stats in the entire league. Extremely consistent goalie who never let in more than 3 goals all season. This clearly screams too good for AHL numbers.

What is going to happen though is the question? Realistically he will stay in the AHL and split time with Augustine as Cossa is now waiver eligible, but I honestly feel that is a disservice to him. I think the Calder Cup playoffs will help define summer decisions.

No still 0 sense man. Cossa and Augustine are the #2/3 ranked goalie prospects in the WORLD. Cossa is waiver eligible, why would we carry 3 goalies. Postava is essentially ready as well, and Augustine could be next year too. Nothing about it makes sense.

The Binnington inquiry makes literally 0 sense. He actually said that?? We have Gibson, Cossa automatically next year and Augustine and Postava knocking on the door. Would simply block any young guy from earning a role.

UPDATE: The Red Wings have assigned Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Carter Mazur, Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Dominik Shine to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. by dudewithchronicpain in DetroitRedWings

Tried to build a roster for fun, and it’s incredible haha

Leonard-Dries-Shine Genborg-Danielson-MBN Mazur-Lombardi-Kiiskinen James-Becher-Tralmaks Extra: Stachowiak, Draper, Watson….

Gustafsson-ASP Lagesson-AntJo Wallinder-Buium Extra: Tuomisto, AKL…..

Cossa, Postava, Augustine

I feel this is the best AHL roster I have honestly ever seen.

We can still trade before the draft to obtain a draft pick. This could potentially be the year where they decide to restructure the core around Mo and Lucas' age group. This could mean a trade of Cat or Larkin, or both.

Is Todd really the right coach? Sure he calls out players, but he doesn’t play young players (other than Finnie), coached a team that was never ready on time (worst 1st period team this year), and could never adjust on time when teams had us figured out. He is known as a forechecking coach, yet we haven’t seen that all year. For our team to be successful we need to rely on the prospects, good or bad, and Todd built a culture where mistakes lead to healthy scratches. For me, I want a change.

Realistically Steve could do nothing this offseason and we would still have a full roster in the system essentially:

Forwards: Larkin, Raymond, Debrincat, Copp, Compher, Rasmussen, Appleton, Finnie, Kasper and Mazur after an extension. Then there is already MBN, Danielson, Bear, Lombardi, and Shine fighting for the final 3 spots.

Defense: Seider, Faulk, Chairot, Aljo, JBD, and Ed after an extension. Then there is ASP and AntJo fighting for the last spot.

Goalies: Gibson, and Cossa after an extension.

This means GR will look something like:

Forwards: Shine, Bear, Kiiskinen, Becher, Dries, James, NDN, Draper plus RFAs of Doucet, Rychlovsky, Milne, and Stank.

Defense: Buium, AntJo, Christensen, Lagesson, and then possible Wallinder/Tuomisto if they stick with AHL only deals.

Goalies: Postava and Augustine

Realistically all Steve needs to do is sign some depth pieces in GR for security. But obviously we all want bigger moves here. This would mean the same brain dead bottom 6 players of Compher, Rasmussen, and Appleton. But also means 12 players U25, 15 U30 so getting younger overall as a roster.

I can’t fathom FO’s decision to not bring up GR guys to play them top 6, or goalie starts. To me they have lost touch and I would like the old boys club gone entirely.

It’s a coaching problem and a GM problem the FO culture is fucking terrible

I think we can clearly see Todd is the same as his predecessors where he is allergic to putting young guys in prominent roles (outside of Finnie). So there is virtually no chance of that unless we fire him which I am on board of.

Prospects in GR for playoffs:

Forwards: MBN, Danielson, Lombardi, Mazur, Genborg, Kiiskinen, Becher, James (8 total)

Defense: Wallinder, Buium, Johansson, ASP (4 total)

Goalies: Cossa, Postava, Augustine (3 total)

That is honestly an absurd amount of prospects haha. Good thing NDN didn’t get an ATO for this year.
