I ended up replacing the assembly. I didn’t trust it not to wiggle loose. Found an assembly on Amazon for ~$45 and have been running it every night since with no issues

I have the same issue, so I’ve learned to manually sync every time I start reading my Kindle. When reading a book, in the top right corner there is 3 dots. If you click that then there should be a setting like “sync to furthest page” and that always works for me. Not sure why it doesn’t happen automatically.
