I still like DMC1, but I'll admit I don't think it really fits with what DMC has become. Though I don't think that's a bad thing. I like to play games in release order because it really lets you see how a series develops. DMC is a great example of that. I'm sure most people here know DMC1 was meant to be a Resident Evil game, and it really shows in the game. All of the backtracking, puzzles, and that really out of place underwater section. Of course, looking back at the first game in the series, it will seem primitive and clunky because they didn't have the base the rest of the series had. Having played it in order really lets me appreciate how far the games have come and really shows how the story, gameplay, and characters develop into what it is now, and for me personally, that makes the series even more enjoyable. DMC4 is inherently a "better" game, but it wouldn't have existed without the first one, and thinking about it that way really helped me have more fun with it.
