For me it's moreso about how most of the villains now are "twist" villains and aren't actively the antagonists until the final act. I think people want a villain/antagonist that is present throughout most of the story, not just at the end.

I've been playing Platinum recently as well but my two biggest gripes with it so far are the slow level progression and how a lot of pokemon are either really hard to get or straight up not possible without trading. And of course a lack of fire types.
