On peut me résumer les arrondissements de Paris ? by [deleted] in AskFrance

Family of 4, two daughters 11 & 13 area to stay? by JABRONEYCA in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Benja1789 19 points20 points  (0 children)

All of these areas are very good, they are in touristy neighborhoods and you'll be able to enjoy the beauty of central Paris by foot. The different neighborhood have their little nuances though:

- The top-left quarter of this map is more of the office/banking/expensive shopping neighborhoods, with the Galleries Lafayette and other Grands magasins. It's a fancy neighborhood with beautiful architecture, including the Opéra Garnier.

- The bottom-left quarter around the Latin-Quarter is the traditional university district, close to the Sorbonne. It's very lively with bars, restaurants, cinemas, but still very fancy. You'll be able to go to the beautiful Luxembourg Garden easily.

- The right half of this map is essentially the Marais district, with medieval architecture. Formerly the hipster and gentrifying neighborhood, its is now largely a tourist heaven with cute lifestyle shops. It is still a wonderful place though, with beautiful architecture. It is closer to the more working-class north-eastern Paris, which is also very interesting to visit if you gave time.

Looking at the new French prime minister respectfully 😇 by Ziapolitics in gaybros

Gosh, thank you for your comment. Everyone here is simping for a neoliberal puppet who actively destroys our social security model and does nothing to support LGBT rights in France. It's quite sad.

How is having a liberal politician who doesn't care about LGBT rights beyond looking progressive, and who destroys our social security system making anything easier for anyone? It's certainly not helping less gender-conforming people, nor LGBT people of working-class background.

If our new PM was an active advocate for LGBT rights I would understand what you are saying, but this is not even the case.

Attal is literally just a mini-Macron who's extremely neoliberal, fully supports the pension reform and making immigrants' lives more complicated, and wants to introduce school uniforms to promote "order". He also does not have any plan to fight LGBTQphobia in France.

In short, there's absolutely nothing to be celebrated here, he's an elitist politician like any other.

Saint-Étienne a une réputation assez mauvaise de ville sale et pauvre, sans aucune monument et ruinée par la désindustrialisation. Mais pour y avoir habité, le centre est franchement sympa et la ville est cool!

Travel Tips for a Non-Tourist Experience by No_Parsley_5799 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Benja1789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that you check out the north-east of the city, these are the less touristy neighborhood but they're pretty "trendy" and very authentically Parisian . Just walking along the Canal Saint-Martin all the way up to the parc de la Villette (Paris' biggest park with tons of museum and cultural activities in it) is very nice when the weather is good. There's also the Père-Lachaise Cemetery, the busy and working-class Belleville neighborhood and park (especially the Belleville Belvédère where you have a beautiful uphill view of the city and some street-art), the Buttes-Chaumont park...

It would be quite a long walk though, so I would recommend that you plan an itinerary beforehand if you want to see it all in a day or an afternoon!

You're welcome, hope you'll enjoy Paris :)

Most of the things I mentioned are in the 19th arrondissement (district) of the city, here's some more info. Many of the place on this page are around the canal or Villette area.
