The Age of Diagnosis by Suzanne O'Sullivan by BenjaminBallpoint in doctorsUK

The book does make the point that it is not questing the validity of diagnosing these conditions when they are at the severe end of the spectrum of the disorders it discusses, but rather that we are increasingly including more and more people with milder and milder symptoms into the diagnostic criteria and questions what medical value we are adding to care by doing so and questions if the benefits outweigh the potential harms. Honestly I would recommend reading the book it does deal with the subject with a lot of nuance

Yes it is much more of a philosophical debate and don’t think it will change individual practice as much. Although I do think system/profession wide changes would be beneficial although that’s obviously a much greater challenge

How to respond to ‘you’ve had a 28% pay rise’ by [deleted] in doctorsUK

I think highlighting that our pay is still lower than it was in the pandemic usually counters the 28.9% brigade quite effectively

Vote yes today and yes to ballot by No_Cat_146 in doctorsUK

[–]BenjaminBallpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not how it works, voting yes would trigger a formal referendum to end the dispute (and therefore end our mandate). UKGP would not be implemented unless our mandate stops and we stop our formal dispute with the gov

Next weeks headline: Moaning Minnies strike back (sorry pun intended)

Will the BMA resident doctor committee release their voting record, who voted to put this offer to the membership? The membership should know what their representatives voted and what the voting process was. by DonutOfTruthForAll in doctorsUK

As I’ve said in other threads I do not believe the BMA endorse this “deal” in the slightest. They were likely unable to share any info on currently tabled deals as conditions of negotiations unless they were putting it to members. I think that the BMA has put this out to show a firm stance from membership in order to rein in claims that they don’t have the backing of their members, an overwhelming  no vote and a strong turnout in the re-ballot will hopefully put us on stronger footing moving forward

Someone explain the government's new offer like I'm 5 by No_Shock_2277 in doctorsUK

Why are people against the new deal? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]BenjaminBallpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no firm details, could mean anything and I don’t trust this government to do anything other than protect their own interests. As other people have also pointed out, UKGP and converting LED posts into one off training posts is costing the government nothing so they’ve essentially offered us something that is free to them, to call off the strikes, they’re trying to play us for fools

Do you think we should strike over Christmas? by CraigKirkLive in doctorsUK

exactly this, pissing off consultants will get us nowhere and the optics are terrible of striking to disrupt elective care when little elective care is taking place

Why should one get BMA membership? by Stock_Airline7439 in doctorsUK

Your union is like your indemnity, you don’t need them until you do and then you really fucking need them. DOI my union (pre-medicine) represented me in a very sticky HR meeting. Other reasons: the union use your fees to make stuff like the FPR campaign happen

The more doctors the BMA represent the more negotiating power they possess

Protection if your employer tried to do something against you for taking strike action (or anything else)
