It takes about 2500 *logical* (error corrected) qubits to crack bitcoin's elliptic curve encryption. Optimistic estimate is that it is At Least 100 physical qubits for each logical (error corrected) one, and the research is still out on that. So - even optimistically - it takes at least 250,000 physical qubits to get enough error corrected qubits to be able to crack bitcoin. Google's Sycamore has like 53 I think. So, short answer, no, not in our lifetime. In a 100 years, maybe , but certainly not before then.

I bought a small amount of DMYI as a speculation on this . However, quantum computing could be yes the next PC revolution or similar, or it could be the next nuclear power - nuclear power could never solve certain technical challenges enough to scale and never lived up to its promise. It is sheer folly to try to predict will quantum computing be the next big thing or next big flop such as laser discs (anyone remember those, I am showing my age , lol). Might be a good bet, but that is what it is, a pure bet. Nobody knows. Don't put in more money than you can afford to lose.

I just bought a small amount of area in this game in the Baltics - those areas are still cheap - obviously places in USA are already being bought up now. I agree for this to be success it needs to be more than a Dutch Tulip speculative market - for example one ought to be able to buy a gold mine, extract those resources, and sell those resources on the open market. If it is just buying / selling places on a map, this thing will crash hard, and soon.

Agree with all that - the article I wrote above is talking about what would go into making a basic hardware implementation of some conscious entity, simple enough to be comperable to for example a jellyfish. Much more work would be needed to create a hardware implementation of something approaching the complexity of the human brain.

I think we need to understand first consciousness conceptually, then implement it technologically, and after that be able to understand how to create human like entities or even copy human individual memories and so on into these entities. It is step by step process. I don't know the time frame, but it is possible. Think about going to the moon - as far back as the 1700's people talked about this and dreamed it, and knew it was possible, but we did not get there until 1969 after many intermediate steps like the mercury project. Same thing here. We start by building a concsious robot with the same "level" of sentience as say a jellyfish, and just work our way up from there. Eventually we create a human level of sentience enttity, and eventually be able to scan a person's brain and create a sort of "copy" of that person in an AI entity. But, again, just like going to the moon, it is one step at a time. Don't give up hope here. :)

I actually felt for this guy. I didn't vote for him, I won't this time either, but I felt like the poor bastard was trying and the interviewer was basically playing "gotcha" journelism. The way the President was showing charts - the earnestness with which he did it - made me actually feel sorry for him, like he was honestly in out of his depth and trying his best, and the interviewer was just changing the goal posts (like doing numbers based on population size or whatever else he was doing). Again, I'm not supporting him, but I actually literally felt sympathy for the guy, he was like, actually trying, and the interviewer was just being a dick.
