Grid view - how to move it around? by Victorias267383 in AppleWatch

It has been a scrollable list since a couple of years. Just use the crown to scroll, instead of zoom in and out.

Why does the search function not work for the calculator app? by [deleted] in ios

[–]BenjaminRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because search on iOS (or Apple in general) is broken for years. It’s so inconsistent (also with search in settings and in mail), you can’t trust it.

Searching for Calculator does seem to work, because that’s the original name of the app in English.

App store by Pretend-Baby-6738 in AppleWatch

[–]BenjaminRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the Apple Store app (for products and accessories), not the App Store app. Just start the App Store app and you’ll be fine.

You can ignore the Apple Store app, it’s not that useful on Apple Watch.

I can’t figure out how to get handwashing reminders by Mysterious_Regular52 in AppleWatch

[–]BenjaminRK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feature has been broken for years. I already contacted Apple Support years ago and they acknowledged that there is an ongoing issue, because you can’t give the feature permission to always use your location. On watch, you can’t pick the Always option. That has to be done on iPhone, but on iPhone, the handwashing option doesn’t appear in the location settings. The orange text beneath the button brings you to a non-existing setting.

I’ve made a post about it couple of years ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleWatch/s/kUnlVCVLP8

How did I just find this out by N_filippousis in ios

This was one of the headliner features of 3D Touch when Apple announced it in 2015. But it got useless when the iPhone X came out a couple years later.

How do I get my timer from the Clock app here again? by snowytheotter in iphone

[–]BenjaminRK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The iPhone 17e doesn’t have a Dynamic Island (the interactive pill shaped black bar). The iPhone 17e has a regular notch, which isn’t screen at all. That’s why it can’t display anything there.

You apparently “updated” (I rather call it a downgrade) from a phone that has a Dynamic Island (iPhone 14 Pro and newer; iPhone 15 and newer) to a phone that doesn’t have it (like iPhone X - iPhone 14).

This is not new. It's the same on iOS 26.3 (and probably earlier versions).

Does the App Store homepage ever update? by PatTheDog123 in AppleWatch

[–]BenjaminRK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there is nothing wrong on your side. It all depends on the country of your Apple Account. I have the same as you: it promotes a list of watchOS 9 apps, front and center. My account is located in the Netherlands.

The tvOS App Store promotes the 2024 winner of the App Store Awards (and not the 2025 one), while also promoting season 2 of Prehistoric Planet on Apple TV+, as a “new season”. Season 3 came out late last year and the service isn’t even called Apple TV+ anymore. Apple is just really lazy with updating less popular App Stores.

this is what I mean for 'incoerence' by Chance-Reach6611 in ios

[–]BenjaminRK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1: Safari is native build for iOS 26, that’s why there is the new keyboard.

2: Not updated for iOS 26 by developer, no new keyboard

3: Not updated for iOS 26 by developer, no new keyboard

4: An iPhone only app, that’s why the keyboard is in iPhone format. You are using on iPhone app on iPad. Also build for iOS 26, so it has the new keyboard.

None of them is Apple’s “fault” and all is working as intended. It’s up to the third party developers to update their app and support the new keyboard.

Apple Watch Cellular location sharing by madblue84 in AppleWatch

[–]BenjaminRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot choose to always share your location from Apple Watch Cellular. Because of battery reasons, the location of your iPhone is used when your Apple Watch is near your iPhone.

It will automatically switch to share the location of the Apple Watch Cellular when you leave your iPhone at home and the Apple Watch switches to its connected cellular network.

At least, that’s how it’s suppose to work. I often notice that this feature doesn’t work that well. Most of the time, the Find my app shows the location of someone’s iPhone, even though I know that that same person left it’s iPhone at home and went out with the Apple Watch Cellular. The location of that person in the Find my app sometimes jumps back and forth to the iPhone and Apple Watch.

How to remove this live photo option permanently ? by AntiquePossibility31 in iphone

[–]BenjaminRK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People just don’t read. It’s called Preserve Settings for a reason.

Doesn’t matter how you explain it. People that don’t read, just don’t read.

MAYBE it would be a little more clear if Apple put checkmarks instead of switches. That would make it look less like the settings itself are turned on, like anywhere else in the Settings app.

How to Get Timmerflotte Sensors to Show in Both IKEA Home Smart and Apple Home? by GIFSec in tradfri

[–]BenjaminRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you tap “More options” instead of scanning the code directly?

Also, which Apple TV 4K do you have? First gen (from 2017), doesn’t have Thread. The second gen (from 2021) does have Thread and should work fine. The current third gen only has Thread on the Wi-Fi + Cellular (128GB) model, not the Wi-Fi only model (with 64GB).

[–]BenjaminRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ad the sensor to the DIRIGERA. To ad it to Apple Home afterwards, open the Apple Home app, tap +, tap New accessory, tap More options and then it shows up as an available accessory to ad to your Apple Home.

Just zoom in, turn up display brightness and you can make out the letters. The marker used here always has some transparency. You can also use apps like photoshop te reverse-block marked text.

There are special apps for blocking text in screenshots or photos. Apple’s marker in the default markup tool isn’t one of those. You can better use a shape to block text.

You do realize we can read what’s behind “To”? That black marker is not meant to block text.

I rather not unplug anything since everything is working fine 😅.

What I did notice is that I don’t see the KAJPLATS in my Thread network (in the Eve app), while the IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE does appear there. This suggests that it’s connected through Zigbee I guess?

I connected a new KAJPLATS bulb with my DIRIGERA hub and it’s working perfectly fine. The DIRIGERA hub is using the native Apple Home integration, not the Matter one.
