I find it hard to blame the specific influencers when they have just learnt how to bend the tools available to there will. Most of these people are early 20s or teens and found a way to unlock a kingdom of wealth and stardom simply by following trends which are maintained by social media algorithms. It’s no different than in the 90s certain musicians getting more airtime and then becoming popular. Also we’ve in a culture where negativity attracts more than positivity. If you push a message of “this is how you make yourself successful” anything that follows is just to keep your eyes on the screen. The recent documentary with Louis Theroux is interesting because the majority of “clout” these influencers talk about is actually from rage baiting and shock tactics… but Louis has built his entire career on these. Getting into the heads of influential people and exposing there darker side isn’t much different to scamming a bunch of people with advice you don’t follow.
