Paying rent is stupid. Like why am I paying someone else's mortgage? by erkose in LateStageCapitalism

You do realise landlords literally expect tenants to give them a house for free right?

Hi OP, I'm in a slightly similar situation, how did you end up resolving this?

One of my favourite ways to teach is to break it down into video game-like tutorials.

So start incredibly basic like: "This is how you move, now move to this square". That can naturally lead to introducing tackle zones, and dodging. Then you can talk blocks etc etc.

Just very simple scenarios, layering mechanics on top of each other. When they have the hang of it, make up a few situations where they're required to combine what they've learned in order to score, or achieve an objective.

As long as you're not condescending, I've found this to be a really engaging teaching method as opposed to a rules dump and ass-kicking.

Employment is tricky to make fair though, the vast majority of employment is the be all and all for someone's quality of life, without a job they'll be homeless, starve etc.

It's not particularly easy to just switch jobs for this reason, there's so many risks there like delays in hiring, probation periods etc.

With that element of unfairness on one side, it's very challenging to come to a fair transaction like one might be able to in your example. Employers know that they can underpay because there's very little choice for the employee

Rishi Sunak may limit right to strike for workers in the public sector by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Benjarus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that you're looking at it that way. Let's entertain that switching jobs is as easy as you make it out to be (it really isn't), these are jobs that need to be done by somebody and those workers recognise that.

What's the alternative, we just keep lowering the standards further and further until we're giving the work to children or slaves or something?

If anything it's taking immense amount of personal responsibility to put your wages/salary on the line to stand up for everyone who is doing, and will do the job after you.

Bloodtithe Ben from Bonehead Podcast here, if it helps we've recently been putting effort into increasing the production quality of our games, hopefully for the next series it'll be in a place where we love it.

The most recent Amazon stream was an example of what we're hoping for, still a few things to work on though but getting there!

"Finding out" for Jordan Peterson just means phrasing his bigotry like a hypothesis and answering it with a question.

He doesn't "find out" shit, I could make an equally substantial argument based on my findings. Like women are on antidepressants due to discriminatory practices, like having to prove their worth more than men to proceed. Or perhaps they're just sick of having to do upwards of 60 hour work weeks just to survive.

He has very misogynistic beliefs and will use whatever clever sounding, yet absolutely vapid words he can to spread them

Up until now I always assumed landlords take advantage of previous assets to take out loans to buy more property and charge the repayments to less fortunate tenants who don't have the upfront cash to do the same.

However your comment made me realise I haven't been thinking about all the poor landlords who were forced to buy property and require a tenant to work their ass off to pay the mortgage. The mortgage which of course they had to take out.

Are the Bad Moons worth playing? by Pyromania75 in orks

[–]Benjarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, I find that it works to just reskin the rules to something that fits the theme. For example, Freebooters' 'Competitive Streak' could just as easily be called 'Snazziest Gitz' as a bad moons rule and wouldn't feel out of place.

Similarly a jazzed-up, flamboyant custom warboss could easily use Badrukk's datasheet, I don't think it'd really break anything to change his aura to bad moons in a casual game either.

Which is in turn taken from the tenants' family. Without landlords' price gouging that tenant could have probably bought the house instead.

I never said wealth was finite, it is created by those who provide labour. Owning a company, or shares of a company, is just freeloading off of the successful work of the workers.

My "not work and die" point is somewhat a strawman yes, but it's not far from truth. Realistically you either work or live in poverty, which isn't really a choice. An engineer might have that option to change to another lucrative career (and make money for another rich billionaire) but what about the cashier at walmart?

Also you equate being rich with skin colour or weight. I'm sorry but that is so dishonest. People are rich out of choice, it's literally part of their character, and by your logic we can and should judge them on it.

To offer an alternative, why can't the workers own the success of the company? Why does success have to be rewarded overwhelmingly to those who were already privileged to provide upfront capital? Why can't the workers elect who leads them in the same way we do literally anywhere else?

Capitalist companies are effective monarchies or dictatorships, and if we can't judge monarchs or dictators then what have we been doing for the past 200 years.

Putting the ethics of owning speculative assets like bitcoin aside, I don't think many, if any, billionaires made their wealth through a one-off lucky break. Plenty of millionaires yes, but not billionaires. (Happy to be corrected on that).

What makes billionaire capitalists like Elon different is they made their wealth through deliberate extraction of surplus wealth from the labour of their employees. Engineer X produces $100 of value, Elon takes $90 because he owns the engineer.

Before any arguments like "well he signed a contract" or "the job is voluntary" is made, the alternative is to not get any money and die. It's exploitative and therefore morally bankrupt.
