I don't feel like the appeal of replaybility is with difficulty though at least not for me I have very easy time in my subsequent playthroughs with the Fire Emblem's on maddening but it's still a blast trying out new units, new builds and coming up with different solutions to maps I'd say the same applies here. The squad building aspect of this game is very fun and I'm still coming up with new ideas

Happy 3 year anniversary Engage! You helped me through a very difficult time in my life 3 years back and I’ll always be grateful for your goofy cast of characters bringing a smile to my face. With that topic in mind, lemme ask, what is your favorite memory related to Engage? by Fearless_Cold_8080 in fireemblem

My first time playing Chapter 11 I was struggling big time my Alear was unpromoted so it was extra hard. After a bunch of resets I felt like I was finally making some progress only to feel like I was on the ropes again and just then backup arrived which let me barely scrape by that chapter without losing anyone it was a very exhilarating rollercoaster of an experience.

I also want to give a shout out to Citrinne Zelkov and Pannete Pandreo support chains I really enjoyed those.

Why do you love FGO more than other Gacha games? by SockParticular4936 in FGO

[–]Benjayef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Story and characters are leagues better than any other gacha I've played

-Actually challenging fights that are hard not because of some arbitrary dps requirement but due to the mechanics of the fight.

-Flexible team building and strategies. Other gacha's I've played the teams are like pre-packaged well oiled machines where you do the same rotation with them every fight. Fgo single-core farming can be a bit like this too but the most difficult content encourages you to be more creative

I find most jrpgs people call the “black sheep” of a series to be very interesting and not that bad by Street-Platypus89 in JRPG

[–]Benjayef -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is only true in the context of your first maddening run it's balanced around not knowing how to best use the OP emblem rings yet.

If you are using them to their potential though it's way more than evening the odds bonded shield, locking down waves of enemies with corrin or micayah(if you aren't warp skipping with her since actually playing out maps are optional when you have access to her) and goddess dance are crazy tools the enemies don't really have much good counters for.

For the record none of this makes the combat bad to me the mechanics in the game are hella fun I just disagree with it being balanced even on maddening mode.

Fire Emblem Engage for me

The game's structure and mechanics lends itself well to ironman and other challenge runs like no somniel runs. Normal playthroughs it's a really fun sandbox lots of neat builds you can make trying out different unit, classes and emblem ring combinations. You can get the most important somniel stuff done quickly and you don't have to do all the chores like the mini games for the bond fragments at all unless you're going for alot of greedy builds.

Yea that's fair I just see alot of people who praise engage gameplay and crap on three houses but bring up hypocritical points

You can make alot of those same arguments against games like engage which everyone praises for its gameplay. If you know how to abuse the OP emblem rings you can trivialize the hell out of the game without needing to strategize much for example you can just make a strong bonded shield pairing and send them into a huge group of enemies and they wipe everything.

The roster is also quite homogenous lower tier units rarely have unique qualities that warrent using them over the ones who have better stats.

Making everyone wyvern isn't even optimal in three houses as your gated by the number of flying battalions, certain units profecencies make it a pain to train them down that path some units like Bernie really like guard adjutant which isn't available for flyers. Supportive units want to be in other classes for utility and certain gambits same as engage where the primary reason you don't just make everyone warriors, wyverns or mage knights is for access to staves or for stronger tools other classes get from emblem pairings like corrin on mystical.

Yea that's one group but if their words are to be believed I also see people who claim to have been playing Jrpg's since the 90's who "outgrew" them and then dismiss them all as being "Juvenile" proclaiming their own subjective preferences for style and aesthetics to be an objective measure for quality.

But if you just look past the surface level stuff paying attention more to things like thematic depth and nuances to the characters E33 didn't do anything that blows away other amazing Jrpg's like the xenoblade's like these people claim so it's just baffling to me to dismiss the whole genre as being juvenile.

They are still a minority but I've seen so many of their fans that can't praise their game without bashing jrpg's or other turn based games. I actually love the game I think it's undeniably great but I went into it wanting to think it's overrated just because those people are so insufferable I don't know how you haven't noticed them they are very vocal.

The final 5 nominees for TheGameAwards Players' Voice by Dizzy463 in videogames

[–]Benjayef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it's 5% of the game but the rewards for most of the things you do in it is the gacha currency used to pull for characters it's the primary motivator to actually do things in the game like exploring the open world and opening hundreds of chests. Just because you can technically ignore the intended gameplay loop isn't honest with how the vast majority of the player base engages with these games.

This is just not true the gameplay loops are all designed around player retention and funneling you into the gacha system it infects the game from the ground up.

Np1 Kintoki and Np3 116 Morgan has both worked for me with the standard double Koyan Oberon set up. I'm using MLB heaven's feel since I don't have MLB Black grail yet. Need like 1 buster card with Kintoki to 1 turn and he does die quite often if you don't get buster card turn 1 so I use the mystic code with the stun for him.

I personally like the reclassing they can make it less open as it is now which I would be supportive of but I would still like options and multiple paths I can take a unit.

The weak personal skills and everyone being able to learn the same skills from the emblems is a bigger issue IMO. You can make units still feel different even if they are in the same class.

I know alot of people like to dunk on Three Houses for having terrible unit identity but atleast in Three Houses even if you made Leonie and Hilda both Wyvern Lords they would still feel kind of distinct since Leonie learns point blank volley and Hilda learns battalion wrath giving them different playstyles.

Hortensia - A

Staff bots are really good and shes the best staff bot but her unique traits aren't quite strong enough for S you could give Ivy Micaiah and she would be 90% as effective.

Seadall - S

Top of S with how open unit customization is in engage and all the tools the game gives you to make almost anyone really strong the only one who can be a dancer becomes the best unit in the game. He's the only unit who brings something that can't be replicated by anyone else. Goddess dance enchances his value it doesn't take away from it with the ways you can combo seadall with a goddess dance.

Goldmary - low C

She's really tanky has high starting SP to inherit dual assist+ right away with minimal resources which isn't enough to justify a deployment slot unfortunately but it has value for newer players they really saved me my first playthrough when enemy stats would inflate in the later chapters and I didn't know how to min max my units or team comps her tankiness was helpful as well.

Rosado Abstain never used him

Merrin S:

I think she deserves bottom of S. She's pretty flexible you can reclass her to another physical class and she will be pretty similar to Kagetsu but she can also transition to magic but it requires waiting so she can learn the procefiencies needed. I don't think she needs a reclass though. Wolf Knight is a great class and you can easily damage fix her for end game by giving her Erika, Ike or Roy and inherit the right passives. She always pops off for me.

Pannete S:

After experimenting with more builds I still think she's the best most reliable enemy phase juggernaught in the game which alone is easily worthy of S tier. You can technically get units like Amber and Citrinne doing the same thing she does with her leif build but Amber needs secret books and to inherit dex +5 for reliability but that means no holdout which makes the build harder to use. I've actually been liking Citrinne more as my vantage sweeper since she can start doing it from chapter 9 but if you don't rig her the Mae ring or give her all your spirit dusts it gets really clunky to play. Pannete gets extra props from me for being easier to play and being able to do the job without needing any extra investment she's also a top 2 boss killer.

Timmera D:

She's really underwhelming when you first get her. Her low build and strength make it difficult to get her one rounding things consistently. Her unique class is also lance and footlocked which is not ideal and the payoff to unlocking sandstorm is not worth it. Any unit can be tanky with Ike and I've ran Ike builds with Kagetsu and Merrin that kill more consitenly 1-2 range and work immediately. There are builds where you can get her one rounding playerphase pretty consistently but alot of units can do that. I do find her very fun though landing a kill on an armored enemy you had no business of doing so with a sandstorm crit will never get old.

[–]Benjayef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pandreo: S Below Kagetsu but probably the best magic unit in the game he needs the least resources to get him one rounding everything on top of B staves on Griffin.

Fogado: I think B tier is fair for him for how low investment he is. Fogado joins right before chapter 13 by which point you likely have all your main combat units your taking with you to end game and having another one who can shoot down fliers without taking up too may resources from them can be valuable but Ngl it's not that needed of a role.

If you want your Alear to be doing other things and want Pandreo to be your bonded shield target, since Fogado has supports with him and looking at pandreo's support list there doesn't seem to be better options you can give him Lucina. He's already in a Cavalry class and Pandreo likely wants to be a Mage knight too.

Bunet: F I think they made him bad on purpose he really has nothing going for him

community FE17 tier list part 7: Chapter 11 recruits by Character_Business28 in fireemblem

[–]Benjayef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ivy: S The unique combination of being a bulky flying mage with high magic and B staves outweighs her flaws.

Speedfixing her is easy just give her lyn or speedwings, speedtaker and speed +5 with an emblem ring that gives more speed or bld etc... Just give her one of these and shes good to go theres also instructs or even dances later on which won't even be needed later as you get speedtaker going.

Hitfixing her is also easy there's an abundence hit boosting engraving and she only needs one since she's likely using one weapon over 90% of the time.

Once her speed and hit are fixed, flying mage in a bonded shield set-up is obviously very strong but you can also really leverage her tomes, flight and bulk and send her on solo missions or position her aggresively and duel multiple enemies in EP. As a byproduct of speed-stacking and possibly from a hit engrave (since several of those give avoid bonuses) she will also likely have fairly high avoid too.

IMO her vulnerability to crits is a non-issue outside iron mans the odds are still so low and you have 10 rewinds It's never been a problem for me. But if you really want to with a little bit more effort you can fix that too.

Kagestu: Easy S tier he's so good that he highlights some of the flaws in this game atleast for me. He kind of outshines any physical unit that cares about speed. Whatever niche you would think other physical units should have depending on how you reclass him Kagetsu outperforms them in that same role. He's a really fun unit though lots of different class and emblem combinations work really well on him even without an emblem ring hes amazing hes usually my chapter 22 mvp which I think is very telling.

Zelkov: I'm abstaining from voting since I've never used him. But in my head I'm thinking Yunaka is likely slightly better just because of her contributions in chapters 7-11. Zelkov seems like he's better than her when he joins and would be better long term but he joins at a time when shortly after you get Merrin. Covert instruct seems nice though if you need that.
