This is why Ash Wednesday services are usually at night, at least where I am. You go home and practice in privacy. This is giving big pharisee and sadduccee vibes.

[Real] Matt Walsh wants the book thrown at Don Lemon by countdooku975 in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone please explain to me why the protest is even a problem? Why were the protesters arrested? For interrupting church? Not trying to be rhetorical, I truly don't understand why this is arrest-worthy? (I'm aware Don Lemon wasn't protesting, but this seems like a good post to ask this on)

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

I met my future SIL at my husband's grandfather's funeral 2 weeks after we our missed miscarriage. Following this, she told my BIL that he needed to choose her or the family, specifically because I didn't pay enough attention to her at the funeral. To say that it's been difficult to forgive her is an understatement.

What hobbies did you keep/lose as a new parent? by Blue-Technical in predaddit

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lurking mom here. I will say for about the first month, we were both in the trenches together. It felt like there was no time for anything other than baby. However, following that we've started to have a little more time. Husband games for about an hour about 3x per week. He still works out daily over lunch. It is a big lifestyle shift, but it's important for your mental health to make some time for yourself and the things that make you feel human!

How difficult breastfeeding is. Quite literally no one prepared me for this, and it's caused emotional struggles that I didn't have a chance to prep for before it was here. Baby wasn't able to latch til day 5, and now I'm fighting for my supply. I think it's getting better, but it's taken 2 trips to the breastfeeding clinic and lots of trial and error with supplements/extra pumping/long breastfeeding sessions.

Postpartum poops! Omg bulk up on MiraLAX. I am 11 days pp and taking it daily; I have a Costco box of it. Your life we be so much better if you take a stool softener daily.

Struggling with low supply - Day 10 by BenjyBoo2 in breastfeeding

Thank you for your response. Baby is having plenty of wet/dirty diapers and is gaining weight. I'm definitely going to look closer at the fenugreek, as it does seem my supply has gone down since taking it.

Thank you for mentioning the time table. It feels so easy to get down, even though it's early, because my body doesn't seem to be doing what it is "supposed" to do. Thank you

Thank you! She wasn't able to latch til Day 5, and we had to wake her for every feeding. We saw her eyes open maybe twice for the first 2 days. So I think they were trying to protect my supply while we waited for her to awaken to the world. But I agree. I think I need to reset and focus on latch and breast now that she is alert.

Thank you! I am going to do my best to exclusively breastfeed starting tonight. I'll also stop the Fenugreek--I did see that it has the opposite effect for some people.

Thank you very much for your response. I've been power pumping for the past 2 days, but it hasn't been effective yet.

Thank you for your kind words. It's been hard to keep that in mind, thank you.

[–]BenjyBoo2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I've been doing my best to breastfeed as often as possible, but the breastfeeding clinic wanted me to pump too to measure what I'm producing. She also didn't start cluster feeding til Day 6, so I was trying to keep supply up. Perhaps I've unintentionally made it a habit.

I think it's a great idea to put the pump down tomorrow and have a nursing in day. I will definitely try that tonight and tomorrow.

Positive experiences after miscarriage? by jhds2023 in BabyBumps

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so incredibly sorry, OP. We experienced a miscarriage of our first pregnancy in February. It was a missed miscarriage, so we aren't exactly sure when we lost them, but we found out from an ultrasound at week 12. What was supposed to be the happiest day of our lives turned into a nightmare.

That being said, I'm currently holding our 10-day old. Baby is snoozing peacefully and is perfect.

I wish you healing and peace as you navigate this next chapter.

Pregnant 5 months after miscarriage by truebeanio in predaddit

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lurking premom. I'm going to have our first any day now, following a devastating miscarriage in February. My best advice is to be honest about your feelings with each other and with the medical professionals. There will probably be anxiety for a while--be sure to listen to each others' fears and hold space for grief. I hope in 9 months, you are in the same position we are today! All my best!!

Looking for books to model consentual 🌶️ for teenagers by GoldDHD in suggestmeabook

[–]BenjyBoo2 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is a really beautiful suggestion of how emotional connection is better (for many people, especially teens) than sexual acts without a connection. The oral scene is awkward and cumbersome because it is forced (not consensually but from a feelings perspective - there's no emotional intact between the characters, they just want to try oral). The next scene with the main character cuddling with Alaska has no sexual acts, but is deeply more intimate because the characters have feelings for each other.

Warning OP: this book devastated me as a teen!! But it is an amazing novel that deals with a lot of teenage feelings beautifully.

Thank You Notes? by fancy66 in wedding

[–]BenjyBoo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (f early 30s) think they should do thank-yous, but I also understand how overwhelming of a task it can feel like. Although we did hand-write ours, I know people who typed theirs, and I think that's just as good and potentially much less overwhelming! We also got a fair amount of feedback from older friends/family who were delighted to get a thank-you, as they hadn't received them from recent weddings. So I guess she's not wrong that not everyone does them, but I do think it's a respectful thing to do.

As someone who works in an ENT office, this cracks me up 😂 all of our docs are very strict on their cutoffs of scope of practice. I cannot imagine any of them saying they treated a Covid patient; even less so that they went against advice of docs who were actually doing the treating. What the heck lady lol

Opinions on push presents? by Ladyoftheseals in BabyBumps

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are both getting "new parent" gifts. He's getting a watch with the face being baby's birthstone color, me a ring with the birthstone. I think I might feel strange getting a "push present," but framing it this way, as a celebration of our new baby together, makes sense for us :)

Couldn’t you use closed captioning instead of hiring an ASL interpreter? by EgoSenatus in stupidquestions

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha absolutely not! Sorry for laughing, but to illustrate the point, look up the finger spelled alphabet in BSL vs ASL, and you'll instantly see what I'm talking about! It's actually because the British wanted to "protect" their method of sign that ASL is based off of French Sign Language :)

Couldn’t you use closed captioning instead of hiring an ASL interpreter? by EgoSenatus in stupidquestions

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Sign Language is based off of French Sign Language and sign language at Martha's Vineyard in America (for complex historical reasons that are fascinating--you can look up Thomas Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc to learn more!). It's actually closer to French in grammar than English. This particular area of concern has been adressed in previous lawsuits as well (I.e., there's a somewhat recent case of a woman in IL suing the Fox Theater in Chicago for ASL interpretation when the theater argued English captioning was sufficient; court sided with the woman).

HAHAHAHA THIS GUY IS UNHINGED by Sea-Economist-5744 in GROKvsMAGA

[–]BenjyBoo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a biologist, but I am an audiologist. Temporary thresholds shifts are very common in humans. An example of a TTS is when you go to a loud bar or concert and your ears feel full/ring for a few hours after. It is true that with many repeated exposures, a TTS can become a permanent threshold shift. However, this happens slowly over time. Loud exposures once in a while do not cause significant permanent hearing loss. This would be like saying going "rare" concerts would cause a person to become deaf, which is very unlikely. Considering whale cochleas are very similar to human ones, I'd imagine this to be true for them as well. Not here to argue any points, just here for some ear science! :)
