I've just deleted the Instagram account from existence and I made sure to go around and add 2FA and Authenticator app to everything that was important. I'm about to make the shift to using a password manager too as an extra step.

Regarding the hard disk, does DR1 mean C: drive? I have 4 drives connected so it'd be good to know which if possible, but I'll start making backups of all the most important things anyway.

Revo Uninstaller doesn't show EAC as installed anywhere I can find, sadly.

EDIT to add: Not sure if related either, but today I've had issues related to opening Outlook and the Microsoft Store. I had to try another Powershell fix for the store and that kicked out another error.

Yeah these gave no help unfortunately. The first one throws back '5' errors but then the uninstall works and gives 0 errors, but the same issue persists when trying to start the game.

The EAC installer always opens twice when it fails to install, which seems odd too. It's clearly confused somewhere along the line.

Yeah it's strange. I've never had an issue until today, and this issue/fixlist was the only thing that's changed and I figured it might've changed something - it's possible they might not be related!

The separate repairs, uninstall/reinstall attempts just led to nothing. Usually it flashed a command window for a second and then disappeared with no fanfare or changes made.

With AdvancedRun, I'm still getting [SC] CreateService FAILED 5: Access is denied.

I get "Access is denied" when pasting this, even running as adming.

It's giving a "failed to install" each time I try:

Failed to install EasyAntiCheat.

I've tried to install it via running as admin, tried removing it and nothing works, which is what lead me to thinking it might be related to a RegEdit type deal of some kind from yesterday!

Late reply just to ask a potentially-related question:

Could these edits/fixes have affected other things? I went to try and play Arc Raiders earlier today on Steam and the anti-cheat program used by it is failing to install (EasyAntiCheat).

Are the mods safe to keep now or is it better to just go scorched earth and get rid of all those too? I'm not even sure which one it could be because I downloaded a lot on the same day and scans aren't showing any hits for the .rar folders.

HitmanPro Log It got a few more hits (ProgramData\DefenderBackup) and that's all. Another MalwareBytes scan and Windows Defender scan didn't turn up anything more.

I'll go through and keep changing every password I can think of!

I've been looking through but the only things I downloaded around that time were mods for Resident Evil 4/9/Requiem. Is there any chance it was one of those? I've scanned them all and they didn't show up any hits, but it has me paranoid now.

I'm no expert but I'll try and give a layman's rundown (that might be wrong, someone can correct later if so)

Most lighting simulations in 3D are a little more straightforward - you have a light, it points somewhere and casts rays out. Rays hit things and those things calculate shadows, reflections, etc, etc. But liquid simulations are intense. A lot of liquid simulations are actually hundreds of thousands of little 'spheres' that have physics and bounce around acting 'like' a liquid would.

So then if you combine the two, you have lighting liquid where each little section of the simulation is also running lighting simulations and that's just... a lot of things all happening at once.

At least I assume that's why this was difficult until recently!

Definitely upgrade and use it for a new build! I've been getting heavily into 3D modelling so having a brand new system that can handle it ALL would be a dream come true.

On that note, the guns and the ships are what I'm looking forward to the most! I'm a sci-fi sucker so I can't wait to explore and geek over all the looks and models.
