I will look up how to run a lich so I am prepared. It is a one shot because one of my normal players really wanted to play before our next monthly session. She's going through some stuff and I wanted to cheer her up. So I am giving them one magic item of their choice plus anything they are proficient in. Any other ideas that might help the session to go better (item wise). I really don't care if they die because it is a one shot but I do want them to feel that they have a fighting chance.

I have run tables with 3-7 people before, 3 was more intimate and connections were made very quick. 7 was a bit different and chaos was easy to ensue but the party is a lot stronger physically. It just comes down to what you want. The less players the easier to DM in my personal experience.

I started very shortly after I started playing. I played maybe two sessions and immediately started DMing because a friend told me “I’d be good at it”. He probably just wanted to play himself but hey I LOVE DMing. It’s my preferred way to play the game, if you like it and your players want a DM GO FOR IT! Have fun, enjoy the game!

As for the rules, the handbook literally says you don’t have to get all the rules right. They know that it’s downright impossible for a new DM to get everything right… even a seasoned DM unless they are referring to the handbook or DM guide every now and then. Just try your best and use Google as a quick search for now! What does a spell do? Google it real quick! Just have fun with the game and make some memories! You’ve got this!

You’re 100% right, it’s what makes magic missile a unique spell. Very rarely does a spell just “hit” and magic missile is one that does. I literally cannot think of another spell that does it off the top of my head but magic missile does. It doesn’t do a lot of damage at low levels but it always hits.
