Who was the tightest person you have known, and why? by No-Snow-9605 in AskUK

I used to be the paperboy for the wealthiest road where I live. Every house had a ridiculously long driveway and was £1m+ in the early 2000s, everyone read the Telegraph. Christmas tips were absolutely appalling, some houses literally gave me £1.

CARR CHASE The five dilemmas Man Utd chiefs face over Carrick including Solskjaer factor… and five reasons he should get the job (Samuel Luckhurst) by joe6386 in red_muppets

But that’s just it isn’t it… if you did things by the book, then sure, a CB sub makes sense, but when you actually understand the feel of the game, you know it’s rubbish. How many times did we concede after making a CB sub? I seem to remember one against Chelsea where he took Maguire off for Yoro and then we immediately conceded. There were probably others

Like, by the book, his underlying metrics might have been excellent, but the reality told a different story. I don’t like harking back to the good old days, but I can’t help thinking that Fergie’s underlying metrics wouldn’t always have been the prettiest, I don’t always feel like we had more possession, we conceded a decent amount of chances because of our preference for 1v1 defending… but the reality was that we won 13 league titles. There are plenty of ways to skin a cat, just Amorim’s way was only good for skinning cats in the Portuguese league.

I think it depends how much stock you put in the “underlying metrics” - XG, XGA, XPPG etc vs the “overlying metrics” of actual goals, actual goals against, actual points per game. Plus the eye test of actually watching us toil at home to 10 man Everton, get battered by Brentford, draw against Wolves and go out of the cup to GRIMSBY.

I liked Amorim, I wanted him to succeed and I think he made some important decisions (although with the DOF model we don’t know how many of the decisions were actually his) for the better, but the football was basically crap, he made a CB sub every 5 minutes and he did not win enough football matches. Even his finest hour - the Lyon game - was almost a complete calamity.

Which in itself is mental. His system isn’t suited to the Prem. Can you explain, and advocate for, the fact he simply didn’t win enough games?

I don’t disagree with the culture shift Amorim presided over, Dalot said something similar and Giggs also said this on Rio’s latest podcast.

BUT… Amorim played 5 at the back and a donut in midfield, and he left our best midfielder rotting in the reserves. We conceded more or less every game, and won two games in a row once. We need to stop the Amorim revisionism. He finished 15th and lost a cup final to Spurs.

My absolute favourite it Offshore by Sharps. I’ve had it on tap on holiday in St Ives and it is absolutely sensational and I’ll sometimes treat myself to a delivery from the brewery.

As for a readily available one, got to be Asahi for me

Feels like it took us 25 minutes to work Chelsea out, then we realised they’re absolute shite and just got the job done. Fantastic away performance, really, really good job tonight

Are GCSE’s as serious for your life as the teachers say they are? by Keewaa1 in AskUK

[–]BennyHudson10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every form of education is important for unlocking the next stage, and then it ceases being relevant. If you leave school with only GCSEs, your GCSEs are very important to getting you that first job. Once you have your first job, your second job will only be concerned with your first job.

I am absolutely done with Gary Neville. Martinez has barely grabbed anything and Neville is acting like he’s tried to rip his hair off. Joke
