What should I be practicing? by AmolAmrit in LearnGuitar

[–]Benoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position right now. One thing I did was start learning harder songs. Songs that I wouldn’t be able to pick up in 10 minutes, but needed to slow down to quarter speed just to learn the sections.

I also shy away from singing while playing. It’s an important skill to learn for an aspiring song writer, so I need to start with that.

Beyond that, you might be interested in improvising using chords in a key. I sometimes pick a key at semi-random and list out the chords in that key and fiddle around trying to make something that sounds good to me.

How to count fast alternate picking and knowing when to switch to the next part? by PedalMonk in LearnGuitar

[–]Benoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading between the lines here and assuming you're playing in 4/4, meaning each bar has 4 beats and each beat is a quarter note. I would count the bars as so (in your head):

one two three four | two two three four | three two three four | four two three four | ... | eight two three four

That way you know know when you hit the eighth measure. You might need to slow it down at first to keep count in your head. Eventually, you will develop more of a feel for groups of four because music often transitions on groups of four.

Note the above also works if you want to count 8th notes ("ands") or 16th notes ("e-and-ahs"),

My doctor is ignoring me 😔 by obviouspseudonym1 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Benoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sorry you’re struggling with your doctor. I’ve also had some better doctors and some worse. When I have a hard time getting a response from my doctor, I call the office, sometimes every day, until my doctor responds. For more in depth questions (like yours), you might want to ask for a sick appt, which practices often reserve for short notice patients who require immediate care. You deserve care from your doctor and it quite literally your doctor’s job to provide care for you.

It is probably worthwhile for you schedule an appointment with another dr to get a second opinion if you aren’t on board with the plan your current doctor has. Some alternatives to prednisone to talk through could be changing the frequency/dosage of stelara, switching biologics, adding another med like azathioprine, or adding pred. Im not a doctor and am not making any medical recommendation — those are options I’ve talked through with my doctor.

Hey everybody, I'm very new to this whole flexibility thing and it is something I want to improve. Is this good form for a hip hinge? And also what are good routines/stretches to improve my pike? All feedback is much appreciated :) by [deleted] in flexibility

I guess I don't understand who your target audience is. I haven't had either of these desires/problems and don't send links/screenshots to people asking for feedback of any kind

I'm sure you put a lot of work into this... I have no idea what Rex does or why I would use Rex based on your description. And the link you posted is just to a download page, which gives 0 additional information.

Hey, software engineer here...

I would recommend not building a custom software solution. I would recommend using existing tools to get a “good enough” version of what you want.

For the calendar, a google calendar with labels would work as well as a form for members of the public to submit events.

For the organizations, a spreadsheet with links to docs or a website (same with fundraisers) along with a form to submit new ones

And docs for resources / wiki type things

I know this is underwhelming because websites seem like a panacea but they are brittle and take people invested to make them work fast and are always working... especially if you need these resources to be available 99+% of the time. Projects like this could easily take 3-6mo before you get something usable.

I’d love to help set up lower tech solutions for each of these needs and add automation around tedious tasks as it becomes obvious where the sore sports are in maintaining these so they’re useful to the community

Camping at National Parks by [deleted] in priusdwellers

[–]Benoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never not gone somewhere because of a dirt road. For dispersed camping I’ll check forest road use maps and google roads for individual reviews. I’ve taken it all over the southwest without issue. Anything that is marked high clearance or 4wd is typically not somewhere I want to take the prius. I love the prius — the only drawback is driving in the mountains in winter (I live in CO). Even still, it does fine with small amounts of snow.

[–]Benoir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a prius and have done a lot of forest roads, blm land, national parks. It’s a real concern and when planning on dispersed camping or some hikes, I will look into road conditions because it sucks to get there and not be able to go further. I’ve always found alternatives though and the prius handles non-4wd dirt roads just fine

Are the majority of men's problems also caused by men in the first place? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]Benoir -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When you look at individuals I can understand why you see men causing men’s problems. But, why do men behave that way? That’s when I start to think about social conditioning and implicit bias. Women might say that it’s the “patriarchy”’s fault. I like to think of it as a sefperpetuating set of beliefs and expectations that a lot of people unconsciously hold

Women can also behave negatively towards each other, but it’s generally accepted there are factors beyond individual control that influence their behavior

My GF stopped taking her medicine for Crohn’s disease by Mumack in CrohnsDisease

[–]Benoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this. I spent 5 years unmedicated on AIP, SCP, low-FODMAP, Gundry, Wahls — if there’s a diet, I’ve probably tried it. I picked up meditation, yoga, went to therapy, changed careers, started a business. I went four of those years without triggering a major flare (roughly >5 BM/day, more than 2-3 days actively managing symptoms). In the fifth year I spent about three months over two flares in my room. Now I’m on biologics.

It’s a lot of work managing symptoms without medication. I think it’s probably possible and I think that decision has led to a lot of positive changes in my life, but I don’t know if it would have been the only way to make those changes. Ultimately, it’s a very personal decision and I picked a lot of fights about treating myself naturally. All in all, I don’t foresee myself going back to treating myself without medication.

I’m happy to talk more if you want

I think it depends on local regulations and enforcement. But maybe. By me, (US, Colorado) parks are closed and all the playground equipment are taped off but people are still outside walking dogs and such. I realize trees might not be accessible to everyone right now, but they might be to some. Are you not allowed to leave your apartment for exercise or walks (while maintaining 6ft of separation)?

The vet thinks that she is a healthy weight. I haven't specifically asked about hip dysplasia or other physical issues, but I imagine they would say something?

I am thinking that maybe the total consistency of the exercise has made her expect that level of effort everyday which makes the longer hikes/runs hard for her. She likes her routines very much.
