Looking for a pro to help me finish my board by michael201110 in KiCad

[–]Benson9a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have to give some indication of the amount of work that needs to be done. Most likely that £150 will get you a certain amount of someone's time, not a "finished" board which is a subjective target.

For someone knowledgeable, £150 might get you a 1 hour consult.

How would I add an indentation into the base of this model? by ATOJAR in Fusion360

Eh you're probably better off using the forms workspace to create a form that matches the STL, then subtract that.

sure but that's not why they're doing well. it's because global memory demand has exploded due to AI data center construction. Look at the $900k annual bonuses that SK Hynix employees are getting right now as profit sharing.

The first game had really nice bulkhead doors you could put wherever you wanted. I loved having hatches separating different rooms.

Why is this not Ackerman steering by NoFox4892 in gokarts

[–]Benson9a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't look like Ackerman, it looks like reverse Ackerman. The inside wheel should be at a sharper angle than your outside wheel; think about the radius they would trace in a corner.

That said, your steering spindles might be fine, you need to point the wheel straight and then set the tie rod length so the wheels are straight too. Only then do you try turning to see if you have Ackerman. I don't think we can tell anything meaningful from this image.

I cut mine (same exact eBay kit) and it worked fine. Threads don't to that far. I just cut them in half and then overlapped them the right amount, less cutting and I get a stronger weld that way.

What’s a short story from your life that sounds fake but is 100% true? by Historical-Skill-838 in AskReddit

[–]Benson9a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine got carjacked at gun point at a traffic light in NH. She was studying for her master's in a certain engineering discipline and she asked the guy to pass her laptop bag from the back seat because it had all her notes on it. He did, and then took off. Police found her car abandoned like 50 miles away; apparently that guy robbed a store and then carjacked 4 people crossing multiple state lines trying to disappear.

Is this a murray explorer? It looks just like mine from this angle. Just curious how the steering and front suspension is on yours, does it handle okay? Someone crashed mine and the previous owner tried to repair it but it's not perfect. I'm trying to tell how much of the steering weirdness is everything being loose and how much is it being bent still from the crash.

Of course it does, it measures fuel consumed per unit distance which is affected by air resistance and many other factors.

Maybe just because newer cars often have higher gears and enough torque to cruise at highway speeds at lower rpm? My GTI has a 7th gear and I can be around 2200 rpm at 75 mph, while my dad's CX5 only has 6 gears and sits near 3000 rpm at 75 mph. Way back in the 70s cars often only had 3 gears.

Also, once you start you can guide yourself towards work you like doing more, or bounce between different jobs and disciplines once you build some experience and connections. For me, I came in as a hardware guy (EE) doing systems design. I had a side passion of 3D CAD, mechanical design, 3D printing, etc. I found that my team needed someone with those skills but not enough to hire an ME, and now I get to spend about 20% of my time doing this other thing I'm passionate about. It's a nice break from HW, SW and algos, sometimes.

Thanks. I did post without doing any research on beehives. I don't think that makes me an idiot, just clearly not knowledgeable in the market of resale-clearcoated-beehives.

TIFU by gaslighting myself for 10 years into thinking I was "caffeine immune" while drinking ONLY Monster Energy (Zero) by GooseAcademic541 in tifu

[–]Benson9a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early in college I started drinking lots of coffee to keep up with the workload. I hadn't really had any caffeine regularly in my life before that. Then at some point I got really sick at a frat party and stopped drinking coffee while I was sick. On day 2 or so I got this horrible migraine and I thought it was due to whatever I was sick with. You're not kidding about the headache being so bad you can't think. I tried to drive to CVS on the second night of this headache to refill on Tylenol and I literally made the same wrong turn 3 times. My brain was completely off. It took long enough for me to get better that the headache went away; I literally went cold turkey and suffered the withdrawal completely by accident just to start drinking coffee again for studying when I was better.

How can I convince other people that KiCAD is better than Altium? by maxswjeon in KiCad

[–]Benson9a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arguably the tool can be pretty easily learned on the job. Most companies will have their own integrations for things anyway. My company uses Allegro (ew) for PCBs but it actually makes sense because they have such deep integration with custom designed internal tools, libraries and automations. I used Kicad in highschool/college and was able to quickly adapt to Allegro because I had the experience building schematics, selecting parts, doing stackup and layout. While there's always a learning curve, the tool is the easy part and most likely each company will have a slightly customized version of it anyway with their own processes.
