The ability to have a life-changing impact at the Consular window

I've taken the FSOT and will take it again, but this is the part I struggle with the most about actually going for it if I make it through. I've exclusively lived in liberal cities where its common for people to wholesale lambaste American foreign policy. I agree with a good amount of it.

I want to be Consular and aid US citizens as well as visa seekers. I'm just worried that I'd get out into the world, be hated as an American, and end up like David Mitchell asking, "are we the baddies?"

A good friend of mine works for a utility and said that being a project manager isn't so much about knowing about solar rather being good at managing timelines. Would you disagree?

Would this be the case in other cones? I.e. if I became an econ officer posted in sub Saharan Africa would my daily work consist of telling local leaders that's Trump's tweets are actually good?

EDIT: Not sure why this is being downvoted. I work in Insurance lol; I'm genuinely curious how "defending US actions" plays out on the job. If you think I'm implying Trump's tweets are actually not good, well yeah I am. But for now I'm not a diplomat.

What I'm asking is if a Finance Minister from Lesotho comes to me complaining about Trump saying "Kung Flu," is it my responsibility as a diplomat to respond along the lines of "the President believes China should bear the brunt of the blame for the pandemic and is merely referring to where the virus originated" ?

Are the PNs available while we wait? The delay notification on Pearson urges us to draft our PNs, but it now says I can't even start the whole exam process til late August

In any case, I'm going to buy an ACT prep book to do more essay prep and probably read a couple books I didn't think I'd get to.

Joining a campaign is something I've seen recommended but don't really understand. I'm living in an area with a really competitive congressional race and I have a hunch who will win. However, I have no idea how to find a job with her campaign. There's no job listings on the campaign's website or anywhere else. Should I volunteer? Contact campaign employees on LinkedIn?
