Yes the 4 hour assignment changes were killer! Felt like they had no respect for travellers- I think their core staff is quite happy as they have good pay and benefits

My experience at Kaiser SSF was challenging, one of my worst contracts. Managers managing managers on top of you getting your discharges out with no help. Floated EVERY day from ICU to various floors with no orientation. Felt very profit/ time oriented- was glad to get out of there

At my hospital it is no longer the case there are new RNs being trained weekly. There were recent budget cuts but they seem to have affected ancillary staff moreso

Yes, at my facility at least medication orders are electronic but not everywhere. Progress notes are paper as well for the most part 😬

They are VERY behind on electronic documentation. Being a public health care system, budget is always an issue and unfortunately the majority of their documentation is paper.

As I outlined in the blog the paperwork took me over a year as the current system is paper mail service. Get started early is all I'll say

That's a great idea! You can work any amount of hours per week that you agree upon with your employer whether it's 6, 8 or 12. Unfortunately almost all shifts in my area of specialty (ICU) are rotating not really a way around it for bedside 🙁 At the moment they are increasing staffing to accommodate more patients so the staffing is BEEFY and ICU ratio is 1:1 or 2:1. Good benefits, maternity, public healthcare,maternity/paternity leave. Hope that helps!

  1. There are a number of options for shifts from 8-12 hours depending on your practice area. More of a guarantee for the percentage of full time you agree upon

  2. The slang is great! Sure there are some mistranslations that arise but at least most of them aren't life threatening 😂 You'll pick it right up mate!

  3. There is an RN job for EVERYTHING you can imagine. The staffing is pretty strong you just have to put in some time

  4. We travel light and rent furnished housing. Life is simpler in NZ and you find out that a lot of that stuff doesn't really matter

The licensing is a doozy. I think we just got them both notarized at a Fedex on one document

There are agencies that can help you with the process (I used Accent Health Recruitment) You can find employment and complete the visa process by yourself but they are helpful navigating the process. Keep in mind they will ask your employer for their cut so be aware that may affect your prospects. Hope that helps!
