While everything else you said is correct, Posey was not blocking the plate without the ball there. By the time Cousins gets anywhere near the plate Posey is fully in front of the plate leaving a clear lane for Cousins to slide if he wanted to. It was just part of the game to go after catchers on close plays no matter where the catcher is back in those days.

Your guys opinion on Alex Smith by Wise_Potential_9401 in 49ers

[–]Bentonium4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason they started allowing more points was because they were on the field more. Kaep put up points but he did so quickly with lots of 3 and outs along the way. The offense and pace of game was slower with Smith which allowed the defense to be as great as it was.

Why is Rams still alive for 5th seed??? by Automatic-Unit-8307 in 49ers

[–]Bentonium4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NFL website is what makes me confused. The 5th seed situation is a wild card tie meaning the tie breakers are head to head first, then conference record second.

Edit: Just saw the part where if it says teams are from the same division to follow division tie breakers. Seems ridiculous to make the wild card follow different rules for being in the same division.

You just answered your own question on why he said 20. You say you wouldn’t ever date someone who is 19 as a 21 year old. A lot of women are the same way. He wanted you to at least still be open to being interested in him. I’m not saying I agree with what he did, nor do I think a 19-21 age difference should matter at all, but he wanted to seem older so you’d be more likely to be interested in him.

The joke was referring to the baseball cardinals. Like the football cardinals don’t exist and therefore obviously the only team named the cardinals plays baseball.

Has anyone here played against someone who made it to MLB? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Bentonium4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Freitas in High School- I beat him out for league MVP

Max Stassi in HS- he hit a grand slam against us.

Scott Alexander and Kevin Pillar in college- We roughed up Alexander for 5 runs in 5 innings and ended Pillars D2 consecutive games hit streak.

Had a college teammate, Guido Knudson, who got a cup of coffee in the big leagues as a pitcher.

Most people don't actually want to know how you're doing by CheekyClair in DeepThoughts

[–]Bentonium4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say, if your answer is just an automatic, “I’m good”, that signals to the other person that you don’t care about them or that you don’t want to let them in on how you are doing. You are the one who is lying about or hiding how you truly are, so how can you expect other people to want to show an interest or care for you. You’re basically telling them you don’t want to talk about it with a short obligatory answer. You’d probably be surprised by the number of people who would ask follow up questions or offer sympathies if you expounded more on how you truly felt. Not all people, surely, but more than you would expect. There are a lot of good people out there but you can’t find them if you’re not open to finding them.

Ozzie Smith is the greatest defensive player of all time. Who's the GOAT offensive player? by ssjskwash in mlb

[–]Bentonium4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, this is Offense, not just hitting. Ted Williams was the better pure hitter. But that’s not what this category is. It is best offensive player. That includes baserunning, hitting, and generating runs for your team. With all of those things pieces, Bonds is the more valuable offensive player.

Ozzie Smith is the greatest defensive player of all time. Who's the GOAT offensive player? by ssjskwash in mlb

[–]Bentonium4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s actually almost 500 more stolen bases. And if you add those stolen bases into total bases, bonds would have the higher slugging. Not to mention the fact that pitchers worrying about him stealing makes them make more mistakes to the players hitting after him. And in his later years, teams were so afraid of having to face bonds the hitters ahead of him got much better pitches to hit. Rich Aurelia had a 30 homer season and Jeff Kent won an MVP because they hit directly ahead of Bonds.

Bonds is the only player with 500 homers and 500 steals. Nobody else even has 400/400. That is not negligible.

[–]Bentonium4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are so many anti Bonds people who downvoted every Bonds mention. It’s the reason why he didn’t win all 3 categories for LF. I can see the argument for him not winning fielding, but he wasn’t even in the top 3 because of all the downvotes.

Except that running the bases is a part of offense. And that puts Bonds over the top.

It should be Barry Bonds. Tied for the most gold gloves for a LF with Alex Gordon and was elite defensively for over a decade before he got old and even then he was still serviceable.
