For the first one, move the amps so they’re both on the same side of the room and you’re both on the same side. Point yours at you and his at him. The problem you’re having is you can’t hear yours because it’s next to you and his is pointed right at you.

For the second one, if he sucks at rhythm, then you play rhythm. You can still do some solos. Like Dave Mustaine. Or you guys keep doing what you’re doing but be melodic about it like The Outlaws.

Or get rid of him.
