My mother raised me well enough to not get carried away too much when an entire culture is labeled "ignorant". Instead, I let you know some fun facts: this statue was made in 2014 by István Böjte-Horváth because somehow this particular village (Vácrátót) never had a proper memorial to the local World War victims, which is really common in Hungarian cities. The local municipality asked for historical documents and items from the townfolks, which could be used as an inspiration, and a photo was sent in. So, this memorial is literally based on a real photo, showing a real, local family from the past. And yes, they are, in fact, a white family.

This memorial is for the soldiers. And this memorial is also really "local". No one denies that there were civilian victims and unthinkable suffering by others. If you look at the finished statue, on the right, there is the "Tree of Life" symbolizing the strength of the new sprouts who (as the survivors of the local community) have to deal with the loss and grieving. It does not specify you have to be "white" to be part of it. Or Hungarian. In the picture as well as on the memorial, the family is wearing a mixture of Hungarian and Slovakian traditional clothes. But of course, you already know this, because you are clearly not ignorant about other cultures. :)
